Speed
Big guns
Lots of big guns
More speed
Easy to bail out of.
I was once accused of having my 'bail out' key mapped to my trigger.
It was never proved! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The 5 things I look for in an aircraft need not reflect on my favorite aircraft choices (FW 190 A9 and D9, and Ki-84)

Anyway:

1. Speed - a slow plane is a dead plane, speed is sufficient in A9 and Ki-84, very good with Dora

2. Firepower - Antons dominate in the firepower field, Doras and Ki-84 are sufficient. The minimum I want is 2x machine guns and 2x 20mm. I dislike cannon only planes, even if they have 4 cannons like the Tempest or J2M, though I sometimes fly those as well. Also hate machine gun only planes, though I'm flying the P-47 more and more but still find it "meh" unless I get a cockpit or engine hit. Also, I prefer one set of weapons in the nose/cowl and the other in the wings. Makes both sniping and spread attacks possible.

3. Armor - Zeros don't cut it, neither do other aircraft that cry when they get a cut. FW has very good armor, especially takes fuselage hits well, though even small wing damage often creates too significant lift problems to continue fighting, but even with very damaged wings one can get to base. Engine also very rarely dies as a result of damage. Pilot protection is medium. Ki-84 is weaker in this department, though it can take fuselage/engine damage, probably its biggest weakness is its wing root fuel tanks which tent to catch on fire too often.

4. Maneuverability - for when you lose the edge, which you shouldn't let happen, but it inevitably will sooner or later. FW190 is kind of a contradiction int his department - roll rate is one of the best, but turn ability is one of the worst. 190 requires space to fight, so it's best to use roll rate with throttle to confuse an enemy of superior speed and make them pass, go the other way gain some space and energy and hope it's enough for a counter attack. Ki-84 is very maneuverable and can hold its own against a spit with proper throttle/flap input.

5. Ground attack - I'd prefer my planes be able to carry at least some ordnance which I can drop on ground targets before concentrating on air targets. 190's can carry a large bomb, also rockets which is enough for me, though the rocket tubes seriously impair its air performance. I'm not sure if Ki-84 has ground attack capability, I think yes, though I never used it.

Put forward firing guns on the g'dam B-29 and I can shoot down AI offline or go into hyperlobby and shoot down half the people in there. Case closed here folks, nothing to see, move along.

1. Speed. Everyone knows why.

2. Acceleration. Not the same as speed; it gives you the option of Ďdumpingí speed and entering a maneuvering contest because you can get your speed back more quickly than the other guy.

3. Firepower. It is much better to win with a quick uppercut in the first round than it is to stretch things out with a bunch of left jabs and eventually win on points.

4. The ability to change direction (up, down, left, right--any one of those will do) RIGHT NOW. I dislike being shot at and I cannot abide being hit.

5. Field of view. You canít shoot down what you canít see, but you sure as hell can be shot down by what you donít see.

6. (Bonus) A spiffy paint job or really cool nose art.

Of course, all of these things require a certain degree of stability and honesty in your instrument displays, or all of it is wasted.

2. Just personal . . . I have to like flying it and I have to like it.

3. Firepower. Can I make use of it?

4. What my opponents are flying

5. Do I want to kill other people with my guns or irritate them so much they shoot themselves in the foot / server admin kicks out for flying "crap planes"

I have a big problem.

I'm American, and loved all the American planes and reading about them . . .

But what happens when I fly this sim?

Like many try out the IL-2

I LOVE it. But I'm trying to chase after a target plane and I it won't do.

So I have to find a fighter plane.

And then after flying and trying all these different planes the ones I like the most are

Bf 109 !? For some reason I tried it, and I liked it!

and the FW-190 (that's the first plane I actually killed something in one firing pass with).

Then I find I'm liking the Yak-3 and (obviously) the LA-7

Oh and Japanese Ki - 84 and 61 are nice too . . .

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif Just can't fly US, I don't like them in this game and the .50 cals getting collision / Hartmann close just ends up Crash! Into Me.

I did like them in fighter ace and warbirds, but IL-2 eclipses both of those games

4) Fuel
5) Seat

Frankthetank36

1. Speed. If you are faster than them there isn't much they can do since you can engage and disengage at will.

2. Visibility. What was the US navy thinking when they used fighters that had neither a bubble canopy nor a rearview mirror?

3. Firepower. Anything with four cannons is great.

4. Control responsiveness. Not necessarily TnB maneuverability, I just want to be able to dive down on them vertically and line up on their six for a pass (can't really do that in the 190).

5. Durability. I don't want to lose my wings to something that just has machine guns.

2. Acceleration
3. Maneuverability(not maintainable horisontal turn rate, but roll and instantaneous turn at high speeds)

This is just part of my day dreaming routine.

I am not at all surprised to hear this, dude.
So you daydream about shooting up a school, eh?
From day one who have come off as the type of disturbed person who would try something like this, or at least think about doing it, which is where it all starts.
With the things you say in so many of your posts, I get even more disappointed with you.
I don't know why I didn't see this thread earlier as I would have definitely said something before now.

Owl, listen to this very carefully.
There are so many people in this forum that can have a positive influence on you, given the chance, even though you have not met any of us personally.
Our good advice is still just as good.
So many here have tried to point you in the right direction.
I don't think doing 300 "pushups" in a day is what is screwing you up, man. There is something far greater going on here.
Keep in mind, Owl, that whenever you make a questionable remark in here, there will always be those that will have something to say about it.

As far as the original question is concerned
-Firepower and
-Maneuverability are very high on my list
as well as
-Rate of Climb
-Speed and
-Ruggedness

I always seem to wind up back with the Spit
