I was just reviewing a mission from the Battle over Britain campaign and was amused to see just how much damage you can inflict on an AC that survives.
In the following images i posted you can see a 109E that i managed to riddle with 303's without managing to kill it. I reviewed it with 'arcade' mode on as i could see multiple hits on it but couldnt work out how it survived.
I basically turned it into a sieve but didnt get credited with a kill http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
PS- i reviewed the track again and it didnt make it home, it was vulced! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Can anyone post a better example of a pincushion?

If I understand correctly, the reds are misses and the blacks are strikes.

You made this test against an AI 109?

I´d suggest, simply for more validity, that you fly the 109 and let the AI Spit shoot you.

I´m sure you´ll find a difference.

Remember, the AI have special powers.

BTW, Blakduk, I know and respect you. Don´t misunderstand my post as a challange. I have flown the 109 against AI Spits and if they get the chance, they will rip me to shreads very quickly. By changing sides and getting the same results, you´d have a much better argument.

Do the arrows indicate the damage of individual bullets? I mean it's a big difference whether you hit it with small caliber gun, or a larger cannon.
So my guess: small caliber fire = pincushion, large caliber fire = 2-3 arrows only.

All these arrows indicate the path of the bullets that hit the plane. The red part is the point of the arrow, the black part is the back (like the feather of a real arrow).

Pirschjaeger- no worries.
The plane i was in was a Hurricane Mk1- that means no cannon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
I think Oleg's creation accurately reflects the hitting power of relatively light machine guns. It matches accounts i've read from the RAF of the time- they realised that despite riddling planes with their 303's many times the damage wasnt terminal. I recall reading an account of a downed He111 that they counted over 300 bullet holes, and it managed to crash land!!!
It was evidence such as this that convinced the RAF engineers they had to increase the power of their weaponry.
In the pics the arrows (from the 'arcade' mode) indicate the damage done by bullets that actually struck the aircraft- dont worry i've watched in awe in the slow motion replay how i managed to waste a lot of ammo in his general direction. I wasted about 75% of my ammo load on this guy, i reckon about 10% of that actually hit him. I just didnt hit anywhere that was vital.
I also take a great pride in my ability to scare an enemy without actually seriously hurting him.... NOT!
I was hoping that others might take me up on the challenge of showing off their best 'pincushion' that was still in one piece.... or have i won http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

300 arrows in a He-111 would make a nice pincushion http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

To turn this feature on you need to set arcade=1 in the conf.ini file.
