Okay, so I'm bored so I start seeing how fast I can take-off and land from the same carrier.
My record is 36 seconds.
Rules are: Start time is from the time my mains leave the deck to the time my mains touch the deck; must be dead-stick on landing.
Okay, anyone(hanglands) Show me how it's done.

Holy cr@p, Batman!

Nice video.

Buy that man a beer! (or maybe get him some toilet paper...might have the runs!)

I would think that you might be able to do it faster in a Zero, but what do I know.

That's pretty cool-I like the dead-sticking and letting the ship come to you. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

One more thing. Can you take off again? Thats were the real skill comes if you can take off land and take off again. I have not been able to accomplish that.

Hi M2morris!

I have to say, you have me beat there!

Tried the F4U off the RN carrier at its default speed with 3% fuel and empty loadout. Tried looping in the path of the ship, also tried an ultra-tight go round/stern approach. Came close, had some spectacular crashes. But the bottom line : Hanglands no can do.

I will continue to practice this once Im very drunk, give me 6 hours.

I've done that with a Gladiator.

Took ages thou'; I had to wait (on 8x speed) for the wind resistance to roll the Glad back down the deck.

No track thou' I was just doing it for my own amusement.

Hi,

Im not drunk yet, but heres my best effort so far. Its a go-around in 48 seconds.

Could have done it in 44/45 but stalled out turning on to the carriers course.

Wouldn't it make sense to use a static carrier or at least limit the speed of the moving one? I can set the cv speed to anything I like and all I need to do is to pull-push-pull the stick to do a to-landing-to sequence within a second.

So, what speed?

And also, which carrier?

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gifGood one Hanglands, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I tried everything too: split-S, immeleman and doing what you did in your vid, but after many beers and about 20 attempts I came up with that vid of mine for the fastest time I could do. Suprized my plane didnt get ripped in half by the cable grab, and my eyeballs would be pressed agianst the windscreen.
To answere JtD and Chris0382; It was the Essex at 28 knots and taking off again is allowed only after you catch a cable and stop ofcourse.

I am pretty sure I saw a video on YouTube of someone take off in a Seafire then wingover & come straightback in within about 20 secs.

Yes, Roblex, I saw that too, very neatly done it was too.

You have to edit the carrier speed in Notepad after exiting the FMB to get it to go at stupidly fast speeds. The catch is, next time you open the mission in FMB it resets the carrier speed to it actual RL maximum.

No I did not mean the vertical take-off tricks.

He took off and just lifted the nose and did a chandelle or hammerhead and came straight back in.

I saw someone do something similar for real once in a glider. He released from a winch launch at 1000ft, did a neat chandelle to beat back down the runway at 20ft then did another chandelle before landing.

I know, I didnt mean the thing I did.

I saw the Sea (or Spit)fire VTOL, roll, and land.

His was much neater than my effort.

I cant find that vid for the life of me, but I did find this P-38 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9joZtkrE4EI doing exactly the same thing.

No it was not a VTOL trick. He basically did what you did in your 36 second attempt but quicker. You took off, did a gentle climbing turn then killed the engine and came back in.

He took off normally like you did but instead off a gentle climbing turn he pulled back on the stick, cut the engine, hammerhead to get himself nose down heading the opposite direction and landed back on deck.

So in a Ki-43 I can take off and land on an Essex class carrier going 28 kph within a few seconds. Carrier is long enough to allow take off and landing without turning.

I think that Seafire take-off and landing is in the tracks that come with the game, 'Patrick landing' or something like that.

Les.

Hi,

Yes, Moerteliin, I know the track you mean, but on YouTube I remember a track where the speed of the carrier had been altered to at least equal the takeoff speed of the Seafire.

JtD, I took M2morris' original post to be in the spirit of the 'Patrick Landing' track, and mean that you have to leave the 'footprint' or airspace of the carrier before you can land on it again.

I dunno. Are there any rules here? Or is it just 'THE' quickest take off/landing regardless of footprint / aircraft / carrier / carrier speed/ etc / etc ?

To keep a close to the original idea as possible, I used an Essex carrier at 28 km/h. Took of over the bows, turned around, landed over the stern within 34 seconds. Since I ended up midships, I had no troubles taking off again.

I used the imho best areobatic plane of FB, the Ki-43Ia. It has no hook, though.
