What are those white lines that shoot off of them in random directions?

Its like rockets or tracers...

(note its nothing that Im shooting and this only happens on the IL2, not on any other plane)

Ricochets. That the bullets bouncing off the armor plates on that bird. You will see alot of them when you hit the IL2 behind the cockpit and engine cowls.

As a little side note, it does in fact happen on a lot of the birds in IL-2. Try flying the Hurricane against the P-47 or even a Bf-109 and hit behind the cockpit where the armor plating is, you'll get a lot of these ricochets.

It happens in just about any plane with armor plate as long as it's the right angle... Came in at a slight deflection on a 109 G-10 one time and shot it with the Spit IX's .50 cals. One of the rounds made the same ricochet effect. So it can happen in anything if it can happen in a 109 :P
