Dude. Get in now!

I started off with normal PF, but the desire to fly the Gladiator drove me insane till I got FB Gold, and man, its better than frikkin ecstasy.
Most vehicles are Russian and German, buildings are good for mission building, as most times you'd use a mix of FB and PF buildings. Same goes for thinks like arty and flak.

I can't stress enough the benefits.

What he said.

I can't believe anyone runs a seperate install.. or hasn't bought all required editions.. and downloaded all the patches.. and stayed up for 36 hours straight gaming themelseves into a mental institution.

slo123, u are going to be a very happy chap indeed! I was lucky in the fact that i discovered il2 the original, and have had every patch and add on since, except ostfront, although i do intend to pick up a copy of that when i happen to be somewhere that has one, and i have the cash in my pocket. I find that i probally fly the pacific fighters only 20% of the time. Its not that the planes are just 'better' in il2 aces etc, but i do think the dgen stock campagins much better, espescially some of the enharnced dgen camps, by people such as amaiga on the eastern front.

tempests, 190s,antons and doras, 109's, il2's, 110's, i16's oh the list just goes on. Also the maps are good, its nice to be able to fly over sunny fields, open step, snowy scenery, deserts as well as the pacific settings as your whim decrees!

One thing i would say, and seeing your recent pain in trying to get aces expansion, you probally wont want to hear this, i would really recommend trying to get hold of just flights Battle over Europe add on. This for me completes il2. Not only can u fly the excelent eastern front, you can also then fly late war western front in europe. I am having blast at the moment in escorting b17's over berlin in a p51c. Flying through flak, 190's, 109's and even the odd 262 jet trying to take my bombers down...

As to patching it is no more difficult than patching pacific standalone. just make sure you download the merged patches.

If you do decide at a later date that you want BoE, and u cant get it where you are, i know its still available in limited numbers in blighty, i sure something could be arranged for you.

enjoy

No, you only need the FB+AEP+PF merged fully patched up install for the online stuff, these others are 3rd party addons not needed for online Compatibility.

I Wrote this just for you, slo_1_2_3 ... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Question: I have Pacific Fighters and I like it very much. What will be added if I install it over Forgotten Battles and the Ace Expansion Pack?
Answer: The easiest way to answer this question is to look at all that is installed by the three titles combined and immediately exclude from the list what comes with 'stand-alone' Pacific Fighters. Next, since you need both FB and AEP in order to merge to PF, I'll treat both of those titles as one product (IE, purchased as the "Gold Pack").

That covers what will be new to you after you install FB+AEP and then Pacific Fighters. However, as we all know, the PF(m) upgrade patches contained new flyables, maps and objects that were not available to owners of Pacific Fighters "standalone" version. See this thread to see what was added by patches 3.03m through 4.02m (http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=144;t=001986)

Upgrade ("free addon") v4.03m primarily gives you the new aircraft which are listed on the PF homepage (http://www.pacific-fighters.com/en/home.php). It also contains some new buildings that are intended for the upcoming Norway map. There is also a fountain or something for the upcoming Burma map. And there were the customary FM tweaks for some of the previously available flyables and some graphic tweaks for the water rendering. Finally, if you have a P4 processor be sure to look at the 4.03 readme for suggestions on using new .dll files in the patch.

Upgrade 4.04m fixed some bugs found in a few of the new planes. It also noodled with the AI code for the bomber formations. Finally, it added a new Hungarian ship.

When you're all done with the official patches, read this thread about free DGen upgrades (http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=144;t=004118).

Aparently it wont be here until at least wednesday but I did already download the patches.
so after I instal the merged game I just do the patches right? in order? Or is it bound to go wrong?

Seeing as how you were able to install PF as standalone on your computer, you shouldn't have any problems from your CD-R drive or anything.

Install FB, both discs. Make sure it works by running the game.

Install the Ace Expansion pack disc. Run the game again to make sure it works; the game version will be 2.0.

Install PF as the FB+AEP+PF option. Run the game to be sure you are at v3.0.

Install all the patches in order. You shouldn't have any problems.

If you're not addicted to flight sims yet, slo_1_2_3, you soon will be. While other boys are going to the prom, you'll be perfecting your carrier traps in an A6M. Other boys will be learning to drive but you'll know how to bring down a B-24 with a Komet ... a completely useless skill that women have no interest in. Believe me ...

No, don't worry about that divorce thing. Flight sims got you hooked for life. Your joystick will be your wife forevermore ... But many sleepless nights you will have, I foresee.

We all float down here <cackle cackle>
