Boonty Box and NGC, I must be slacking to have forgotten those.

I work with an employee of Northrop Grumman, and anytime he mentions how great it is to be NGC, I always say, "Thanks for ruining my flight sim experience" He has no clue what I mean by that, and when he asks, I just say "You know,...... you know"

Really he's a great guy though, but I can't let him know that. lol

Lets not forget the many discussions on the accuracy of the altitude performance of certain aircraft.

And going way back to the original IL-2, one of the patches made the IL-2 unflyable with heavey bombloads, you couldn't take off in the plane. There was a discussion about if the certain bombload used was over its max payload or not. Either way, the plane was fixed in the next patch.

God its great to see some old school members here. The Kurfurst/Hop2002 threads were the best! I remember one, where Kurfy said that a Spit could NOT carry a 500lb bomb, and 2 250lb on the wings, then Hop posted photos' of about 10 Spitfires with that loadout on the ground, then Kurfy said something like "Those did not fly, they were only doing taxi test's!" and then showed him photo's of Spitfire's carrying them in the air, then Kurfy went off on like high octane gas or something to distract the fact he was wrong.

My very sig came from Kurfy saying the B-35 never flew, "Not even in small scale prototype". Not only did I show him those photo's, but that week I took video of the Northrop N9M flying around Chino.

That boy never would admit he was wrong. He would just change the subject to distract people from any facts. It was sad that so many people trusted his knoledge on the 109. Even if he was the single best resource on the 109, his actions on other subjects always discredited anything he said for me. He would make a great polition or lawyer, if he's not already one.

He went so far with his hate of the Spitfire, as to edit the Spitfire Wikipedia page!!! He was banned for making any edits on Wikipedia! Thats how far that man will go.

Man I really really hated that guy....

In my defense I had read a historical account from a veteran Jug pilot stating that, yes indeed, if you angled your plane and therefore your bullet stream just right you could bounce a round or ten off the road and up into the unarmored underside of the Tiger tank's engine compartment... But don't even get me started!

Oh dear goodness this thread brings back memories. Turned 18, went to university, got a high-speed internet connection - spent hours and hours and HOURS reading these forums and occasionally actually flying online. Then dropped out of uni for never doing any work. Found this thread today while finding references for the 'trim on a slider' meme. I would like to .pdf the entire thread and put it in a metaphorical drawer on my PC somewhere. *sigh*

seems I'm averaging one post a year on these boards now...

Long stories condensed version: "I got shot down online, IL-2 is WRONG!"

Any thread on Spits or 109's automatically got the other. Doesn't matter topic what the OP contained.

Russian Lazers, don't forget the Russian Lazers.

Oleg's stick sensitivity settings.

Oleg's Guns and Ammo Table.

Helicopter Hurricanes.

P-47 roll rate vs "Learn to Fly!".

Anything about 50 cals, just add 20-30 pages.

IL-2 doesn't model gravity.

The utter relevance of one F-86 vs MiG-15 chart to the ability of every fighter in-game to turn being of course, WRONG!

The great thread on not being able to stall without spinning, pre-v4.xx.

The birth and rise of TIR.

Sorry about the trim on a slider. I was only trying to show how critical the trim was. People were using it but nobody said much. I really thought it would help. But I did not invent the term Bat Turns.

The AI cheat!

Why can’t I keep up with my AI wing leader?

My ride is porked! Porked, I say! vs. Learn to fly!

Exploding P-40s.

.50 cal debates over:

• .50 cal ‘box’ vs. ‘point’ convergence
• synchronised vs. un-synchronised wing guns
• M2 .50 cal scatter (vs every other Light and Heavy MG)
• M2 hitting power

Wobbles

USSR vs the Western Allies, either (a) in a straight up fight after May 8 1945 or (b), whose contributions were more important to the ultimate victory

Huckebein & Isegrim claiming that the 109 provided a better all-round FOV than the bubbletop Allied fighters (but specifically the Mustang). Or Kurfurst's contention that the 109E's cockpit was roomier and its FOV was superior to the Spitfire Mk I's

Late war US fighters and the ‘trim wars’ (Learn to fly, Yankee air pirate!)

UFO/Clowncars: La 5FN/7 vs. the Spitfire Mk VIII/IX vs. the Ki-84

Absent comrades: Ivan the Terrible, Lstarosta & Chuck Older; long may they wave

cheers

Kurfurst would say nothing could outclimb a Bf-109. Hop2002 would talk about bomb tonage. It would go on for days. Now, I think, they are shacked up together in some neutral country corn-holing each other. Peace treaty, you know...

the two of them were last seen in some eurotrash youth hostel rolling around a pile of charts with Kettenhunde, or whatever the goof called himself.

Heee heee.

And who was that hacker guy that got banned from Hyper Lobby? He was from Canada. And to deal with him, HL blocked all IP addresses from a big chunk of Canada? He even had an anti-Hyperlobby website claiming HL installed "powerful" application on your computer that allowed for remote rebooting.

Ow god, I remember GT. Ya, he was a nasty peace of work, and really had it in for Hyper Lobby. He even went so far as registering the domain name Hyperlobby.com and putting up a web page there saying HL had a bunch of spyware in it that allowed them to take controle of your computer and stuff like that. The problem is, he didnt post a single scrap of proof. No packet logs, no code, nothing. All this stuff is easy to get, so I asked him were his proof is? Simple question, and what I got back was a massive attack and threats to sue me, even though all I did was ask simply why he thought HL was spying on him.

What a peace of work he was.

At least with my .50 cal threads, I had PROOF and it was fixed. Then came the .50 cal sync problem, and then the lack of incendary content. Overall the M2 .50 cal was totally PORTED in every possible way in IL2 and still very much is.

Wireframe Cheat
Now this is a hack.
http://www.geocities.com/XXXXXXXXX/vid3.avi (guncam footage using wireframe hack)
Wireframe view allows you too see through your cockpit, and allows you to spot aircraft as soon as they are visible (10km). It also eliminates clouds, muzzle flash and every other form of sprite. In full-real, this renders you essentially invincible.

I'm not going to post a link to the program, but you can see how it would affect an online war.

This program works for all openGL and D3D games (all the ones I have tried), so its not just a FB exploit. Its just a method of forcing various settings in your video card driver.

Normally this hack would not be of much use, because it also corrupts the GUI text, and makes it impossible to find out which plane you are choosing. But in a coop mission it would work well, as you do not have to read anything. Someone using this exploit would not be able to read chat messages.

The famous FW109 bar, Oleg's answer(s):
Q): Because of the big radial Kurt Tank designed the FW190 to fly with a "nose down attitude" in straight and level flight. This is not reflected in IL-2 in the correct manner.
(A): I'm sorry. Did Kurt Tank said it you?

(Q): The Fw 190A-8/A-9 manual states 3° downwards visibility.
(A): And we have about 4 degrees. Interesting isn't it?
08/29/02 07:28AM http://forums.ubi.com/messages...oxreadyroom&id=zyvxo (http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view.asp?name=Olegmaddoxreadyroom&id=zyvxo)
(Q): As pointed out by this technical drawing (image) a FW190 has a 5 degrees downward view angle according to the visibility lines.
(A): who did this drawing of refration did a bit wrong caluclation. I can't explain the physics of that(I was making a lot of lens for my own needs, so I know where is wrong thing), but with my poor english I will spend several hours just to find right words. That is the fist.
Second, (even to take it 100% right) there degrees shown from the external point of the inclined glass. If you'll continue back to the pilot the line with coressponding angles to the law of refraction shown there where you'll get your eyes? And where will be you head top? Outside the cockpit? And of course you'll get this line OVER the gunsight. That is what you don't take in account and think that that angle is visible from the line "eye-gunsight".
In contradiction, that to make this angle visible we simply need to make free movements of the BODY with the head of the pilot. But sorry that is simply impossible (or possible, but we'll need to make some simulation with a lot of controls for the positions movements that to make it close to what it is in reality)

Trim on a slider was RBJ. he was AFJ .... cough...

I'm alivE!!!!! ... hi Red Death

And no, I was never AFJ anybody

I don't join squads .. I'm too good. I prefer to take on the ENTIRE squad. All I need is a some time to take off .. or a cloud .. and of course trim on whatever you want and I'll still find a way to turn harder, but it's not about turning harder, it's about being an ACE and everything that goes with it. Trim on a slider is just the icing on the cake! You have to know the best RPM at every altitude to climb the best, and the top speeds at every altitude of every plane, the turn and burn hierarchy, the escape moves, the fine line between being a head hunter and a head banger, know how to lead shots, have lightning fast reflexes ...

You have to master full real even though its probably still modeled as if the pilot had only 1 eye ... For example hold your hand out and look in the distance beyond it ... then close one and and then open it and then close it .. see whats going on? Vertical cockpit bars should be 80% transparent but I doubt they bothered to even take this into consideration and we are almost a decade later into the sim ... anyway you have to master "full real" AND wonder woman, or you will NEVER be as good a pilot as possible .. it's like that anecdote about the person living in a cave who can only see their shadow.

I'm going to download this game and kill you all!!! .. hopefully by the end of the year

All I need is a desktop computer too (currently only have a 2 year old laptop), and to finish making my tomb in Star Wars Galaxies. (No, I don't fly in space there) I am the greatest, richest, rare collector/merchant ever in that game, (I'm worth like 100 billion ... I'm just as good in SWG as I was in IL2 and I've been playing it LONGER ... any game I get into hardcore I become THE BEST) but is is scheduled to die Dec 15th (ToR is costing 200 million to make and even though SWG is technically not "loosing" money Lucas Arts decided to "kill" it, because ToR is too big to fail .. for any reason even if it means killing off other peoples dreams and jobs .. yea, I'm bitter.

So ... prolly wrote too much by now but when you only post once per year you gotta make it good!

Look forward to playing the new game.
