Thanks I saw that book upon researching the net and I may order it. I am more interrested in if the VVS ever used 109's against the Germans. I know the Russians were fond of giving aircraft as gifts to pilots who were good or Party members flying at the front line.
And Porishkin talks breifly about one still in German colors used to ambush German Bombers.

So I was just curious as to how common it was to come across a Russian flown 109 or 190 leading a flight of Yak's or Laggs.

I know they used at least a full squadron of Doras near the end. I've not seen any photos though.

there is some mention of it in Dmitry Loza's book about recon missions done in 109s. I think he mentions sources mainly about Pokryshkin flying about behind the lines.
