They just did Guadalcanal.... I was so enthralled with the whole thing that I completly forgot to share. EXCELLENT stuff... Good info for the whole "Should we have bombed Japan" debate that rages from time to time around here until it gets locked. Excellent footage......

Good idea, especially since we only had two to begin with.

Bearcat: Forget the History Channel. All I need to know about Tarawa was what I saw in the movie "The Sands of Iwo Jima" with John Wayne.

I watched the VH1 thing too. The Man Show 'buy me some beer' kid was almost as funny as the first time I saw it.

I'll catch the HC show after midnight...like I usually do.

Yes Doolittle's raid is very well done, I saw it the other day and a previous time. Even repeats on a lot of these recreation/documentaries are worth it. And thankyou too Bearcat, I'll look forward to it. I'm on the Pacific coast and get these announcements in time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thats a good show actually. It would be cool if they did a good one about the V2 rocket or the Me 262!

Bearcat, excellent documentary. Maybe one of the best for the HC to date. The actual combat footage was incredible. To see actual Japanese soldiers and US Marines in the same frame fighting is exceptionally rare. The footage of the Japanese sniper in the palm tree BEHIND the Marines was pretty scary. And the Marines facing Japanese in fox-holes just feet apart - man, how do you fight like that.

Tarawa was 1/3 the size of Central Park in New York, and 1,000 Marines died taking it. Of the nearly 5,000 Japanese defenders, fewer than 20 survived.

Fantastic documentary. Thanks for the alert, otherwise I may have missed it.

You know what really amaze me is when they took that arial picture at the end of docummentary.

I did realize how small that Island really was. And to think that it took three days and over four thousand mens lives it over whelms the mind.

Thank you for that information Bear

you are true World war two Buffer like me.

No Doubt about it! hard to imagine 5000-7000 people trying to kill each other in such a tiny place http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

It was a great show, both of them even the Doolittle one the other night.

My favorite part though was when the Japanese soldier remembered Leading a charge, and waving his sword to reealize He was alone and now followed. So he scampered back. Can you imagine the cussing he gave his men later that day.

He was very luck one of the GI's didn't pick him off, like a cherry on top.
