I'll bet the skipper would like to find out too. Obviously one of the stokers having a joke.

Perhaps they were trying to surrender?

I call that forward thinking :-) If you know you are going to end up upside-down, why not raise the colors that way ;-)?

Those are the UK's true colours - the interests of Britain have always been subject to those of England.

I've forgotten but I vaguely remember isn't that the signal for distress?

If so, then he certainly is.

Well, the Royal Navy desperatly needed men for the merchant marine and at some point they took every volunteer they could get.

Thats what happens when you put landrats on a ship http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Inverted national flags are no longer commonly used upside as distress signals. It is difficult or impossible to determine when the flags of many countries (such as Austria or Argentina) are inverted, or the viewer may not be familiar with the flag and may not realize it is not upright. If a national flag is all that is available, distress may be indicated by tying a knot in it, making it into a wheft[1].

Don't know if the inverted flag was still used during WW II.

Hey Brits, don't feel too upset about that. Some Americans have the same problem. Remember the gaffe some Marines made at the World Series in Toronto in 1992?

It turned out alright in the end. After that first game there were worries that Canadians would retaliate by flying the American flag upside down and booing the American anthem. Fortunately we behaved ourselves and let it slide. Our revenge was to win the World Series.

This is a MOD mistake on the flags pics. I looked at the originals and they were upside-down. The game flips them right way up.
So editing these flags you think that this is wrong and place them right up, so the game flips them again.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
