With my system I can run in Perfect mode with a fair amount of activity going on, and in the Hurricane I see virtually no visible frame rate drop with the rear mirror activated.
However, now AEP arrives and with the Spit's mirror activated, the game runs like a snail on Prozac. Toggle it off and I'm back up to speed again.
What gives with the Spit's mirror that's so different from the Hurri's?

Given the Spit's superior streamlining, maybe it's a relative drag penalty...

cheers

what's yer AGP card? I got a GFX5900 SE 128M and the sucker used to chug w/ mirrors on. Since AEP and latest drivers got installed, mirrors haven't had a noticeable affect on my game's fps. ?

I get the same problem chox... it might be that the Spit mirror is quite a bit bigger than the Hurri one.

Mine's a recent new machine with 9800 Pro/AMD 2800/XP Home/1gbDDR/nForce on-board sound/Sony 17" flatscreen jobbie.
I'm using maximum AA & Aniso/1152x864 but I've yet to decide whether I can back off a little on the AA/aniso without losing quality. I'll experiment a bit more.

Make sure that you are not using S3TC texture compression in the configuration utility. It doesn't like the mirrors.

Good Luck.

Well I don't seem to have much problems with the mirrors and frame rates. What I have noticed is that I will be on a cement runway and when I look in the mirror the runway is grass. I have not figured that one out yet...LOL. Not a big issue really just makes you take a second look.

Bet it's the high AA and Aniso. I run a 9800XT at 2XAA, 2XAniso in both 1600X1200 Excellent and 1024 X 768 Perfect. Black Death track fps 54 @ 2:34 @ 1600X1200 Excellent. New system O'Cd.

The AA and Aniso also tends to smooth out distant planes too much......

I believe mirrors have three "detail-modes":
1) no mirror at all
2) mirror with less ground detail
3) mirror with full ground detail
Cycle through mirror modes and You'll see the cement runway there again http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And about fps... How the hell do you guys get drop with such powerful graphic cards??? I myself am running derelic GF-2MX and mirrors on all crates work fine, although I admit I have ground details set down to "medium" and lightnig on "high", no AA. It MUST be something about settings then. Maybe texture compression indeed? It's turned off in my game.

Hope this helps...

Assign a key to 'Toggle Mirrors' in the controls (I use ctrl-M).

TT.

If you look closely at the text at the bottom of the Spit mirror you will see it reads:
"Things are moving faster than they appear in the mirror" That makes the frame rate seem slower. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

Mirrors don't seem to affect my fps much, but they don't add much to my 'situational awareness' either.

I'm not sure they helped in WW II, though many used them. G. Rall, the LW ace, wrote in his book that in the 109 it was impossible to see behind you, so mechanics built small mirrors above the instrument panel. The vibration made it impossible to see anything at distance. "By the time you could see something in your mirror," Rall wrote, "It was time to bail out."

By contrast, the mirrors in FB don't vibrate at all.

And so many mirrors were added to Mustangs in ETO I was surprised they aren't on D model like they are for P-47. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Mirrors created a big problem for me too. After I installed AEP I can enable them whenever I want.
I don`t fly VVS planes though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I dont use mirrors for two reasons..

A: It ruins my fps

B: By the time you see a plane in your mirror its usually too late, So I wont get into a habit of using it since relying on it gets me killed. Checking six....

Did anyone see that or was it just me?
