Have had probs. searching as IL-2 refers to the whole game. Can someone point me to some good threads or guides to THE Sturmovik and its weps ?

I feel the need to be slow and destructive! LoL

I'm fairly new, got 1946, awesome game.

1. Joystick is a must. Even if its a junk one like my logitech. If you don't have a joystick,
get CH or Saitek (if you gotta get cheaper, get one with a throttle, pov hat, more than 3 buttons, and a throttle switch). Throttle is optional, but helps. I only use joystick but going for full CH pure cane sugar set up later.

2. this is a true flight sim, so its going to be a bit tough. Expect a good learning curve, but this game is all worth it.

3. manual / control sheet are pdf files found where 1946 is installed

default - > C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946

4. I started out using the IL-2. The Ilyusha is forgiving, she flies slow (good for starters), can take hits, and can carry bombs, rockets, and has cannon / machine guns, which is all classes of armaments in the game.

Don't be like "Oh dude ME-262 jet" its unforgiving and if you maneuver too much it stalls and spins out or if you play with the trottle too much the engine turns off and you can't turn it back on while in flight. A prop you can.

5. Get to know the basic commands crucial for flight, that are outside of joystick (and throttle control if you have one). Triming (aileron, elevator, rudder), engine start, views etc.

6. shift-F1 centers the gunsight, before you ask

7. They have training videos in the game to show you basics and are very good.

8. Go to quick mission builder (after configuring your controls,

select okinawa map, turn off defence (AAA put to none), have no other planes. select IL-2, set alt 2000 feet) and just go.

There's an island ahead of you. You can practice landing and take offs.

9. landing configuration (land flaps down, gear down)

throttle controls height / rate of descent, pitch / stick controls speed.

(normal flight pitch controls height by plane up or down, throttle controls speed )

When you can land or take off or get bored of that, you can exit mission go back and put in C-47 (slow cargo planes that don't shoot back) as your enemy and practice shooting. Or select rockets and attack the planes / trucks on the airfield (they are small)

7. go full realism on all flight characteristics, it will help in long run.

and the best for last:

nugget's thread (even comes up in google if you " use IL-2 nugget ")

I thinks he needs tips for flying the Il-2 PLANE in the game, not general game info http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I don't fly much (if at all anymore ) the IL-2 as i flew it a lot initally but here would be my advices as it is what i used to do with quite some success i have to say :

Fly below 1000m but above 500m , so you have time line up mutliple target before diving .
During the gentle dive , close rad , get into a 45 degree dive with combat flaps extended , 90% pitch 30% throttle and then do the job

Convergence of cannons , i use 200m cause that's when i start opening fire with them whilst not wasting too many ammos (accuracy) but some friend of mine was using 300m.
Learn to evade flak by gently turning left and right , like a snake whilst diving or climbing slightly

regarding models , IMHO the best is the first one , type 1 with 16 rockets and lots of ammo , but it's not good to fight heavy tanks (unless with bombs ) so let's talk about the other models and their weapons . Il-2M early is better than the late (more solid i guess) if my memory is correct , Il-2 type 3 is excellent , Il-2 3M has mean 30mm cannons (or 37?) but less firing time then previous versions , all these carry a comparable bomb load

Use your bombs only on armoured targets (ie tiger tanks) or ships (bombs are precious ) , use BRS rockets only on tanks or ships , they are meant to pierce armour , use RS rockets against anything except armoured tanks , use ROFS rockets against ships , use M13 napalm rockets against anything except maybe heavy tanks although i'm not sure .

AJ-2 works a treat against almost anything and PTRD is meant for trains or troops columns . That's it from the top of my head , oh and never put 100% of fuel unless the trip is ridiculously long , those birds do not consume much fuel , especially if you set lower prop pitch in cruise , good luck http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thank You & yes I was lookin' for info on the plane. Started another thread to clarify. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

np mate , i saw you created another similar thread just after i posted here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

forgot to talk about the Il-10 , that's cause i don't like it much cause of limited ammoand incomplete side view , i also confused PTAB with Ptrd , prolly played too much red orchestra http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
