'Rice paper' comments colorfully suggest that the plane catches fire too easily.

Looks like aluminum,Duralumin,and copper.

Change of weather? In a word, no. Best remedy I know for such (on landings) is more practice. It wasn't the answer I wanted either, but that's why I and so many find this sim a good challenge.

Cheers

It is originally german and the word is ??ber. Direct translation would be "over"
but it also means "The Best", "Better than everything else" or just "Cool".
So somehow, someone took away the dots over the "u" and made it an english word... might be because american keyboards dont seem to got "??,??,??". Now guess in which country i live http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

It means that the aircraft in game is modeled better then it should be.
For example you hear it a lot when people talk about LA-5FN. It is optimistically modeled for the 1943 La-5FN. Other planes are considered or were considered Uber: La-7, Lagg 3, BF-109G2, some Spits, Ki-84C, BF-109 K4, Huricane, I-16 were "uber" at some point in time.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I mean, without turning this into yet another grip-fest about the AI, why the hell can't I have a plane that sits still in bad weather. The number of times I've crashed on landing or just spent an entire mission spraying lead into thin air because the plane jumps about so much while the opponents fly as if there was nothing wrong...it stinks.
Totally agree.

It is just ridiculous when i am not able to take off or land properly because of 50? or so kph sidewinds. In WW2 they would have either not taken off because it with that conditions it would have been nearly impossible to avoid an accident on takeoff and landing or they would at least have turned into the wind.

And the wind/turbulence "effect" from 500-15 meters is VERY arcade, it just stops as you cross exactly 500 meters. Something like on/off.

And that the AI is not affected by it is very bad too, because they have no problem shooting or flying straight, that is NO realism.
Because of that i sometimes just turn off some of those "realistic" options, if the rules do not apply to eveyone, it is just no realism.

So... having a more realistic and less strange wind/ turbulence effect would be nice.

It is clear to me however that this can only be done in BoB at this moment, but it would be a very welcome change to me.

Hi,

The weather is a real bind. But I have to say, that it seems a lot of people like to dogfight at low altitude where these weather effects are a real problem. If you take the time to get above cloud cover your visibility will be better, and the turbulent effects are gone. This leaves you with the simple task of learning to use corrective rudder on take off and landing due to cross-wind.

Altitude is your friend.

I don't know...after reading what some of the pilots were flying through on a regular basis...I think we have it too good or at least somewhat right. Its too uniform which makes it feel artificial (there's ALWAYS a cross wind) but lets face it...there were conditions where actually firing at the enemy was impossible.

Take the challenge for what it is.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I always associated the expression with "ubermensch" (spelling may be off), referring to the Aryan 'superman'of the WWII era Nazi mythos.

In any case, it's slang for overdone or overmodelled.

I don't mind the weather and the challenge of it - in fact I enjoy pitting my skill against a cross wind - what I object to is that this sim is marketed as 'realistic' which it patently is not. If I have to fly in a cross wind then so be it, but what incentive do I have to risk 'my career' when the odds are so heavily stacked against me. I mean, the AI wont crash on either take off or landing, they can shoot straight and on top have all the added advantages that are so often complained about in other threads. I'm not trying to turn this into yet another AI-bashing session as I see the weather as distinct from AI behaviour.

At the end of the day if I don't like the AI's abilities I can turn off realistic damage, landings, engine overheat etc, but there is nothing that can make me equal in heavy weather..
