How do I know that it is the Audigy card that is doing the work and not the on-board device???

1. Do not connect anything to the on board device, only to the Audigy. Still hearing sounds? If so... well...

2. Disable onboard sound device!

3. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif You should be able to hear the difference, if not... get some quality speakers!

Yeah, what FT said. You will need to disable your on-board sound in BIOS to avoid any conflict between the 2 devices - and make sure you have the latest Creative drivers installed for your Audigy.

The two devices cannot work side by side.

Also, if you go into 'control panel', 'sounds, speech an audio devices', 'sounds and audio devices', click the respective tabs and see what is doing the rendering. You should be able to disable your onboard device there too.
