As many of you know the policy on this site since the whole issue of mods first broke here in September/October of 07 has been to prohibit any discussion whatsoever of mods on this site.

Period.

There were very real concerns over the impact that these mods would have on online play since from prior experience, and anyone who has been simming at all for any length of time can testify to this, in most cases the existence of mods usually spells the beginning of the end for any sim. We have Red Baron, CFS, EAW, and a few others as examples of this. Many here were afraid of seeing this sim, which we all can agree on is what draws us all here and makes us all, regardless to our position on mods so passionate on the issue wherever we stand, go that same route. Today, with 9+ months of mods in this sim and hundreds of people, some new, some old timers using these mods online and off, many of the things we were most concerned about have not come to pass. The sim has not been ruined, online play has not been rendered obsolete. There has not been a bunch of substandard mods out that lower the quality of the sim.

After reevaluating the current policy in light of the facts stated above we have decided to relax our policy. We will no longer prohibit discussion of mods. We would ask that you not post direct links to mods here on this site and also that all questions regarding instructions on how to actually use and implement these mods, or requests for new mods or donations for mod site maintenance be posted on the site where you obtained the mod, NOT here. From what I hear, although I have only had experience with the one site AAS in particular, there are others with a less savory reputations, therefore caution is recommended. There is a PM function that works just fine, please use it, or just Google the above site to find it. We would also ask that whatever feelings you have on the issue be kept to yourselves and not plastered in every thread that comes up. That ship has sailed and by now all the arguments on the issue have been made, and the current state of affairs says more than any of them either way. Any threads that get provocative in any way will be locked and the offending posters warned and then banned if they persist, regardless to which side you fall on the subject.

We all realize that the potential for cheating exists with mods, but that potential will still exist regardless to what we do here and as these mods are today, after all has been said and done, the truth is that they have breathed new life into the sim. We all must bear in mind that the potential to cheat with mods does not make those who use them cheaters. The work coming from one site in particular, which I must in all fairness mention by name, AAS is exemplary and after the fact, I must also say publicly and for the record that the admins over there deserve kudos for doing their best to keep these mods on the up and up, regardless to what some of their former members wanted to do in the beginning.

Here at UBI the subject of FDW mods (Flight-Damage-Weps) will NOT be allowed unless it is in the capacity of warning the community. Also we would ask that accusations of cheating, should they arise, NOT be posted on these boards without first contacting a group of moderators via PM, WITH A TRACK, and then waiting for an evaluation of that track by the moderator staff. We will not tolerate community members being slandered or abused by anyone.

This revised policy will be regularly reevaluated and should the situation change we reserve the option of changing the policy and reinstating the ban on the subject at our discretion. Should this occur we will give the community warning prior to taking that action.

BE AWARE THAT THESE MODS ARE NOT OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED BY 1C OR UBI AND THEREFORE, SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO USE THEM YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. UBISOFT & 1C MADDOX GAMES ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ISSUES ARISING FROM THE USE OF SAID MODS TO ANY HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE OR DATA THAT MAY BE ON YOUR PC AND WILL OFFER NO ASSISTANCE IN RESOLVING SAID ISSUES SHOULD THEY ARISE.
