"Next couple of days"...dude, that was seriously quick. But I kinda' like the tearing with dead bodies, it's really funny when they float up into the sky and roll around like a slinky http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

P.S : Are those the only places to find them or can I just use the auto-patcher?

Ubi.Vigil

Well, it technically WAS released WITHIN the deadline of a couple of days. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Very good point http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif and it's been exactly one calendar month since the official announcement on the news pages. I think that deserves a round of applause http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif *horse claps*

Good News!

I installed the patch like 15 mins ago and have restarted my pc 2 times since, cuz game keeps crashing.

Before i could play for a good 20 mins before crashing... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

1st Crash - Returned To Desktop With messed up colors.

2nd Crash - Blue Screen Of Deathhh

3rd Crash - Just Returned To Desktop.

Yay... lol

I think a thread should be started for ppl to report issues after patch and before to compare whats fixed and remaining issues. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

two questions:

1. did you've removed DX10.1 rendering path
2. does 64bit support mean 64bit EXE, or just some compatibility resolving?!

P.S

I've played game under Vista x64 and with DX10 EXE w/o any problems!

That's not a problem! It's a feature! I've played game on my 24" HP and there are no borders if you play @ 1920x1080, only with 1920x1200 you'll have border 'cos of the proportionality that game must keep

do you have final legal copy or Torrented prerelease with English version of Jerusalem?!

With that pirated version game would crash every 20-30 min, but with final legal copy all works absolutely fine!

mrhalkitis
05-13-2008, 12:52 PM
I have the legal game sitting right here ^^.

Just hate it how it crashes, and its totally random too

sometimes can play 10 seconds and crash, other times like 20 minutes, my record was like an hour i think lol.

If the game crashes randomly at different places and completely independent of what you're doing in the game then it could be a system problem rather than the game. I suggest you contact our technical support teams as they can help you update drivers and make sure your system is running correctly: Americas (http://www.ubi.com/us/support/default.aspx) ~~ Rest of the World (http://www.ubireg.com/uk/)

UbiRazz could you please give me answers to my questions from the first post... I would really hate to looseDX10.1 support, but I might do that sacrifice if implemented 64bit support is really trough 64bit DX10 exe!

Bobfish_Almight
05-13-2008, 01:19 PM
Well, it seems to have removed the crash issue for me, so that suggests there was an aspect of the game itself that was causing, or at least contributing to the problem. I give this a thumbs up

Oh, thank you. I would have never thought of contacting the wonderful support team at Ubisoft. I just love how they always tell me to update my graphics drivers. But that's not the most awesome part, I already have the latest drivers!!! Isn't that awesome?

And what I love even more is how they don't even let me log into the support database anymore. And It's like only me; Isn't that amazing!

Bravo Ubisoft. Your wonderful patch now crashes my game BEFORE it even gets into a game. Outstanding.

And yes, i'm in an extremely grouch mood. Wonder why? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

360 wireless controller bug still *not* fixed. I can't use triggers and vibration still does not work. Wired controller works perfectly.

Wireless controller is still recogniced as a standard gamepad. So sad, it's very easy to fix, just add deviceid of the wireless controller http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Alt-Tab still doesn't work for me after applying the patch.

No other problems with the game so far (but I haven't played it for more than a minute or two after moving to 1.02 (Wasn't having any other issues prior to the upgrade).

Bobfish_Almight

Stuttering is most often caused by the audio and video being out of sync. The audio skips to give the visuals a chance to catch up. You may not be able to see it but you're probably running at a lower than standard framerate. Try lowering your settings

I can confirm that the 1/2 screen pixelization that occured with 1360x768 and 1680x1050 is gone.

Thanks to the developers for fixing that. I can play the game now, it was too distracting before.

Why is the game still starting in windowed mode on Windows Vista 32bit and while running the game in DX10 mode? Wouldn't it have been wise to fix this as well? I like pressing ALT and ENTER as much as the next man but it is still a needless exercise.

I don't know if it fixed my problem with random crashes while playing in DX 10 mode. I am going to keep on playing (I haven't really played long enough with the patch installed to be sure of anything) before updating to the latest NVidia driver.

Sound, chipset and Direct X Runtime are all up to date; basically leaving the game or the 169.25 drivers to blame if the crashes keep happening.
I will report back my findings after more play testing.

I've posted my DxDiag, and done all suggested things, updated with this new patch and still no luck!
Other than that rather annoying thing, everything else works perfectly!

I dunno if this has some meaning, but the last time game crashed, it happen in Damascus but in the moment it froze i found myself in Jerusalem on some roof-top!

""This patch is designed for version 1.00 only. Version 1.00.000 was found instead."

If you are using the D2D version you will need to get the patch from their site as their version is differant to the standard retail version.

caswallawn_2k7
05-13-2008, 09:09 PM
there wont be a X64 exe all this patch does is officaly say the game works on X64 systems so if you have problems and have the patch they cant just say its all down to a X64 OS.

Patch installed with no probs for me; I had a lockup a couple hours later but this also happened once pre-patch.

The lockup was after several failed attempts at the fourth memory block Jerusalem contract; intense 30-man swordfights were a little too overwhelming for my system resources, so I've cut down the graphics settings some...I'll see what happens now.

HeliosX2X
05-13-2008, 11:58 PM
It does not fix the massive lag in the Kingdom, also doesn't fix any of the sound problems, like stuttering, missing voices, missing sound effects etc.

P.S.: Turning down hardware acceleration IS NOT A VALID FIX. The user should never be made to make software modifications just because the game only knows how play well with one sound card model and doesn't work with others.

I think that Entrepid_e is saying sound stuttering while not game stuttering.I have tried to play Bioshock on highest settings with about 15 fps but it doesn't cause any sound stuttering problem. When I'm running AC with about 25fps on med settings, the sound in the game is stuttering like hell.

As previously mentioned the only issue I have with this game is the missing support for the wireless 360 controller. So far no official response to that.

Bobfish_Almight
05-14-2008, 06:32 AM
We are all aware that the Kingdom area is a massive area with insane amounts of information for your machine to process. Whilst it may look like there's more detail on screen in a busy city street, you have to consider that all of that mist makes a huge impact on your system resources. So it's not really any surprise people are having "lag" issues (never mind that lag is a term which actually means low internet latency) turn your graphics settings down and the "lag" will be reduced accordingly. Speaking from myself, the crash issue isn't an issue any more. My only complaint, and this is irritating but nothing major, is that my desktop is often resized after I exit the game and I have to reboot to get my usual 16x12 back http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Chiles4

The only problem I've encountered since applying the patch is that the game appears to be doing some visual effect in the upper left of the screen...and when it does this, it's all pixelated with large, noticeable "pixel squares".

Aside from that, it's running like a charm. I used to blame AC for minimizing all the time but it just happened to me playing Vegas 2 so I think another active app (prolly anti-virus) is causing that problem.

Bobfish_Almight
05-14-2008, 09:02 AM
Could be. but I haven't noticed it with any other games. Though, to be fair, none of my other games are from the recent slew of Ubi releases. It may just be a conflict between AVG and something in the Ubi games. Something I've been wondering though, why is it labeled the 1.02 patch? What happened to 1.01?

The leaked version worked just fine in the kingdom area with my 8600GT card but with a single core cpu then I upgraded to an asus rampage formula with a Intel C2D E8400 and ddr2 ram 2gb and bought the game when it officially came out, after that it worked like **** in the official version.

Still crashes for me when I'm trying to get to Jerusalem in memory block 3 from finishing Acre approaching the last viewpoint.

Updated vista, vid drivers, turned graphics to low despite having a dual core, fatality sound card, and 8800gts. The rest of the game was very beautiful and smooth up until that point. Downloaded the patch from ubi.com. So I'm still at a loss here, any ideas?

Only thing that seemed strange to me was the actual patching, it was very fast. I know the size of the patch wasn't very large, but in my experience patching is a long process, and that was almost instantaneous. Am I just being paranoid?

sortakinda
05-14-2008, 09:07 PM

Jolion 28 i suppose you downloaded the driver from Nvidia out two days ago, which unfortunately didn't do anything for me, apart fixing some minor issues in some other games... i read the release note and there was only a tiny passage dedicated to the assassin's creed fix(not the random crash fix)... i tried the patch and the latest driver, and it seems the game runs a bit smoother than last time, but the crash still persists

Umm yeah nice patch, not sure what it fixed?
But as per my own thread on backgrounds apps possibly crashing AC, ALT TAB would be a REALLY nice feature if it worked, cos it doesn't and IF I'm correct in my assumptions on AC being that fragile that any outside influence can cause an instability..ALT TAB is a must do, so we do not have to endlessly "Soft Boot" our systems.

I vote for ALT Tabbing as a matter of urgency!!

About the lost save games:
After the patch naming of savegame file is different!
Before the patch, the save game file was named same as ur profile, but after the patch its some combination of numbers!
All u have to do is rename old save game files to the new name(the numbers) and backup (just in case) the "after-patch" save game files!
It worked for me!
Good luck http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I can Alt+Tab most of the time so it's not that fragile. In fact, there have been a couple of times when doing so has sorted the game out for me. And others when it's made it die an horribly, flaming death. But meh. and wasn't the Patch supposed to fix it? It's listed in the changelog

I have downloaded the patch and restarted my computer, and the game crashed after about 3 minutes. My computer meets the minimum requirements, and most of the recommended ones.

What should I do now?

PLEASE HELP

I need some confirmation but my current line of thinking is that my problem was brought on by my being too hasty waiting for my pre-order and installing a downloaded copy to play in the meantime. Can anyone confirm me right or wrong that has the original game?

I'll be giving the 175.16 beta drivers a try on my SLI'ed 8800GT SC EVGA video cards and let you know how it goes. Granted, it does run very smoothly so far, and it RARELY crashes, but I'll still be able to tell right away if these drivers are better or worse. Will report back in a few hours.

sortakinda

I suppose that that would be a viable alternative, but not necessarily a "better" place, as you're seemingly implying. If there are bugs with the 1.02 patch, this is just as good a place to draw attention to them, in my opinion.

Bobfish_Almight
05-16-2008, 10:05 PM
True, true. I don't mean to sound standoffish, it was just a suggestion and I apologise if you took it to be so. I didn't realise you were referring to it's specific relevence to the 1.02 (seriously, wtf happend to 1.01) patch and not just to how it runs in general. You are, of course, free to ignore, disapprove or ridicule my suggestions in any way you see fit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, since this patch was designed to address some specific issues that are pertinent to my system specs (x64 support being the big one) and the version I'm running (DX10), I figured I would post any further crashes I experience in the patch forum. I know that all those who overclock their systems (as I have done, with the CPU anyway, and with the timings on my RAM) are automatically suspect in how stable they have been able to make their system. I have recently replaced my motherboard, so I am taking my system stability into account, and have been doing numerous tests to ensure stability under stress. Any other factors that I can throw into the mix to give feedback on, relating to this latest version of Assassin's Creed, will hopefully help with any upcoming patches.

Bobfish_Almight

Makes sense to me dude. In fact, I think I'll go have a look see if there are any Radeon Betas and do the same. Though admittedly my system is underspec so any results I generate will be suspect to say the least

For the windowed problem you can press Alt + Enter once the game starts, or check the assassin.ini file to ensure it contains the line Fullscreen=1 (I can post you a full copy of what it should read if you need it) though even adding the line doesn't work in some cases

I AM GETTING SICK

I have read most of the comments and through the comments that i think that am better off without installing the patch.

Everyone is asking one question ""WHAT DOES IT FIX"" and from reading the comments, i will say ""NOTHING""

SO CAN SOMEONE ANSWER THIS IN ONE WORD>>>>

Is it useful??

Does it REALLY fix anything???

Should i download it????

Is DX10.1 really removed????

THANKS!!!!!!

I am guessing that only the last question will be a YES :P http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Bobfish_Almight

Dx10 is not removed, but a rendering pass has been. Or has been fixed, one of the two. Thus improving the stability of the game. Unfortunately the answer is both yes and no. For some people it has fixed the game, for some it has made it worse, and for others it has made it better but caused other issues. You really won't know until you try. But just remember, if it does make things worse, you can always roll back and not use it. Personally, I'd suggest downloading it. I don't think it can do any harn

Well, I would have to say that from what I've seen, the patch does nothing special to change my gaming experience. I did determine, however, that the 5-4-3-5 timings for my RAM were perhaps a bit aggressive (this isn't the highest quality G.Skill RAM available), so I lowered them to 5-4-4-10. This provides a stable system and runs everything I throw at it reliably. I do feel that this patch may provide a SLIGHT improvement to stability, but the DX10 version doesn't look anywhere near as nice, which is an unfortunate sacrifice, and one I'm not sure is worth it, given that I was able to complete the game on the initial release, albiet with a TON of crashing. I'll know more on how this version performs when I get to the final three city assassinations, as those cities put the most demand on resources, and thus caused the majority of my crashing. For now, however, things run smoothly, for the most part, and I have to play for a long time (3-4 hours) before the resource leak starts to affect framerate and overall graphic quality.

The main reason why I'm keeping this patch even though it means I have to start over with savegames is that it fixes the annoying widescreen pixelization. (Though the popup lod on some things is still annoying.)

Yep, basically true. Sounds like some people got a little improvement here and there, but essentially what was broken before is still broken.

I have the problem with sound stuttering as well. I can't find any option to turn hardware acceleration down for audio inside the game. Am I missing something? Is it something I have to do in Windows?

If it doesn't fix the choppiness in the kingdom and/or the sound issues, then I don't see the point in installing this patch (for me).

It's only a minor aggrivation, but my copy of the game loses visual and audio sync from time to time.
The game works perfectly other than that, it's mainly when the game goes into cinematic that it happens though, but it doesn't happen contantly, only in specific scenes.

Any chance of an additional patch that could sort this out would be handy.

This patch didn't fix videocard crashing for me - still crashes after ~20 minutes of use. My system's up to par:

M$ Windows Pro 32-bit
AMD X2 Athlon 4400+ (OC'ed to 2.6 GHz)
2 GB of stock ram
8800 GT 512

Oddly enough, Assassin's Creed runs fine without any problems on another comparable system that has a 8800 GTS 320.

Update your vid drivers to 175.16 on the Nvidia Driver page. (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.16_whql.html)

[EDIT] And set Max pre-renderd frames to 1 in the global 3D settings.

Thanks - I've already got the 175.16 drivers in use, but I'll try the Max pre-rendered frames option.

EDIT: It still crashes after ~20 minutes of use. I could post a DxDiag, but I'm inclined to swap my 8800 GT with another comp's 8800 GTS 320.

Memory Ram: 2Gb
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

Is there going to be another patch or what? I would hope so still has a lot of bugs and needs subtitles! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

@rnbmbjr: your graphics drivers are a year old pluss ypou have a laptop if you looked at other people having the same problem as you you would of found out how to use a newer modified version of the desktop drivers to make the game work and also that you need to increase your page file instructions on this has also been posted. this is why it says on the back of the box laptops are not supported.

@BigAL: the game runs fine the only thing it is missing is sub titles but at this late stage adding them would be more trouble than remaking the game. if you are having problems post in the help forums and ask for help.

@Mikey: use the link in the info you posted to download the exe file put it in the game folder then run it. as that could solve the problem.

Hey guys, got a problem. I have patched the game to 1.02 today, I have played it for about an hour w/o any problems, same as 1.00. Then sudenly I was in the kingdom (had to start all over because patching deleted my saved positions?!) and I was climbing the view-point to sync the map, and suddenly I got all these textures on EVERYTHING weird. Altair was black and white cubes over him and was blinking, so were the horses and textures of the surroundings were all green and blue and red with some lines around. I tried to restart the game, restart the pc but nothing helped!!!

Btw I am playing on Macbook pro radeon x1600, windows XP SP3 under bootcamp, 2gb Ram. The previous 1.00 I was playing for a day or two with no such (graphic) problems, PLEASE HELP!

There is supposed to be vibration?!?!?! I'm using the wireless X360 controller with no trigger problems, only no vibrations now that I'm aware of it.

<A HREF="http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,645430/News/Ubisoft_No_Direct_3D_101_support_for_Assassins_Cre ed_planned/" TARGET=_blank>We all knew Patch 1.02 would remove DX10.1 support.
There were originally plans for Ubi-Soft to reimplement it, in a later patch.

But, check this out...
...In this interview w/ PCGH, UbiSoft has now stated that there will be no reimplementation of DX 10.1 into ACPC.</A>

"Currently no plan" does not immediately mean they won't re-implement Dx10.1 ever. Just that they have no plans to do so at this time. By their own admission the coding is messed up and, thus, needs to be redone before any changes can be finalised. And since Patch 1.02 is still a recent addition I'd say it's premature to make such firm implications.

Have faith and be patient. These things take time

System configuration:
Intel Quad Core2 Q6600, 4GB PC-6400 RAM, ASUS Maximus Formula, nothing is overclocked.
XFX 8800GT 512MB Alpha Dog Ed.
OS: Windows XP x64
The story is:

nVidia 175.16 GeForce drivers - crashes all over the place; and I mean the worst kind - lock-ups where you have to press reset button to force the system to re-boot.

nVidia 169.21 GeForce drivers - I almost finished the whole game except I lost couple days troubleshooting the issue with 175.16 drivers; after reinstalling 169.21 game is working again. Graphics set to all max. There are minor texture glitches/artifacts but I can live with that.

Anyone else in the same boat? I guess the lesson here is upgrading all drivers to their latest versions is not a good option sometimes.

I'd like to thank those at Ubi for having official manual downloads (unlike another game *cough*NWN2*cough*) for those of us who still use 56k's and need to use a download manager for anything larger than 10MB.

I disagree about not needing subtitles. I have the subtitles turned on in every game that has them AND I always watch TV with the closed captioning on. One reason is I like reading what I'm hearing in addition to hearing it.
The other is I occasionally have hearing loss and can't hear out of one of my ears (usually last 30seconds to a couple minutes) or any speech sounds like an adult in "Peanuts"(Wah-wa wawa... wa-wa wa_). 99% of the time I hear fine, but still I feel bad for people who are hard of hearing or deaf who don't know what the storyline is.

MOST games have this option, MOST DVD movies, shows, etc. have this option. Quite frankly it's a shame it isn't in this game that is otherwise one of the absolute best games I've played ever and (after I learned to make it full screen) has virtually no downsides (controls are perfect IMHO, I never felt I messed up because of anything other than my lack of skill or poor decision.) other than being too short and high RAM needs.

That's my two cents. I hope they fix everyone else's problems. Poor decision to redo how the saves are done to make previous ones unseen or unusable though.

*Edit*
I just installed this. I usually play with graphics set to default (both graphics options set at "2") except I change the resolution higher. Do the people look like potato men now and Altair's cape looks dirty and wrinkled after this or am I just trippin'? Also my save games worked just fine.

Oh and since the question was brought up, I think the 1.01 patch was less than 1MB and happens automatically if you are connected to the internet the first time you play.

Hey guys
I've been reading a lot about those random crashes, as I have them myself.
Has anyone noticed that it's happening a lot with the GF 88** series?
Got a Club 3D 8800 GT 512MB myself, also experiencing a lot of random crashes.
And yes I have an original copy of the game.
Games with this kind of quality deserve to be bought, not downloaded (illegally http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif).

I hope some of you have noticed the same thing, getting quite sick of having to reset my system continuesly.

I'm checking out older drivers now (169.21 Forceware),I'll let you guys know what happened.

OK tested the older drivers.
In stead of helping it messed my save game up ...

I'm a patient gamer, I can wait a few more days/weeks if Ubisoft needs more time to fix this problem.
But I'd hate it if they let us waiting without giving us an estimated time of arrival of some fix or patch that'll clear these annoying problems.

@crashdan: your ATI card is under spec for the game and that problem seems to be happening with low end ATI cards.

the problem is only in the kingdom for alot of people with low end ATI cards. as far as I know no1 has found a fix for it as the problem is most likly caused by the ATI drivers no reading the game info correctly.

Crashdan,

1. If the game says your PC is under the minimum spec, then fix that.

2. Clean out the inside of your PC. Use a can of compressed air to blow out the dust. Clean out your fans and re-apply the thermal paste to both your CPU and GPU.

3. Get the latest graphics drivers for your card.

4. Replace your card with a higher end ATI.

5. Replace your card with a higher end, but Nvidia.

I wouldn't use compressed air to clean your pc, as it can leave a byproduct (a sort of thin layer of carbon) and can short circut the components.

same here the only problem I ever had was a compressor started kicking out moisture so I had to clean up before starting the PC. but even IT experts recormend cleaning with compressed air.

If you use plane Air with no other aids (chemicals) it would be good. But some cleaning products can short circut the diodes on the components, considering that they are the most vunerable to moisture.

compressed air even from a can has no cleaning products in it as the point of it is it blows the muck away and not washing it away making it safe for electrical equipment.

At the price that card sells for here in the UK, it'll be a while before many people buy one anyway, even the cheapest model is around £320 here, and the top model is getting on for £570. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Also, unless a game makes use of the cards ability to handle more than just the graphics, the tests I've seen show it as no better than previous Nvidia designs, which are much less costly.
It might be worth waiting till games are actually using the cards capabilities, they'll probably be at a more sensible price by then too.

does ubisoft plan on releasing another patch (1.03?) which would solve this issue? the thing is, nvidia said in their latest driver release note that there's something wrong with the game , and that their video cards have nothing to do with it.... i hope ubisoft will figure something out... it has been almost 3 months since i installed the game and i still didn't finish it, i can't even play it properly for god's sake... kind of frustrating don't you think?

I installed the patch today, but I'm still having problems with the Alt+tab combination. Anything I can do to resolve this??

When I press Alt+tab and go back to the game I get a windowed version and cannot enlarge it so you keep pressing on youre desktop if you move your cursor to far to the edges.

Just press Alt + Enter to go back to full screen when in windowed mode.

I am utterly sick of this. I bought AC on release day, and to this date I have not been able to play it without it blue screening my pcd. Before the patches, I was able to play for 45ish mins without a crash. Since the patches, I can 13 mins if I'm lucky.

Ubisoft, stop releasing ****e that doesn't work on PC or make sure your games do work before you release them. I wasn't able to get a refund from the store I purchased the game from, so I want it to work. It doesn't, and that is your direct responsibility as a publisher and developer.

My system specs are well above those listed for recommended, so don't tell me that it's my pc again. Fix your crap before you start selling it.

I haven't played this for ages, so I just started it for a quick run around. The autopatch downloaded the patch. I checked the patchnotes before hitting install, and loaded the game.

And, like a lot of people it seems, my profile is gone. The game can't even see it. Am I stuffed then? I must say, if the patch does this, or even runs a risk of it, it should be mentioned in the patchnotes. Does anyone have any idea how to get my profile back?

Might I make a suggestion - like taking about four steps out of letting me quit the game?

Quit.. quit again... quit again... yes, I'm sure... no, I don't want to pick a profile... quit again...

Quit - choice to "To menu" or "To desktop."

Sometimes it feels like I take as long quitting as I do playing. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

There is no ".hdr" file from 1.0 version

For patch 1.02 , ".hdr" file is required for each save profile

In order to save files from 1.0 work with 1.02 patch, do the following:

- run the game

- In Game, create a new save profile (name it whatever you want)

- Exit the game

- open save location folder "C:\Users\<Your-User-Name>\AppData\Roaming\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed\Saved Games"

- rename the ".hdr" file with the save file's name from 1.0 version

- run the game again (Done)
