I asked Oleg if I could model the P-63. He is currently trying to contact WPedro to see if he is still working on it. Till this, I had a little fun modeling in Max wile waiting for Snorri to texture the P-38. I started this Friday, and only spent a few hours each night. Finished it Sunday. In total, about 20 hours. Guess what? ITS FINISHED!!!! 100% done. All I need to do is texture it, and do the DM and LOD. Here is the results.

Also, the model above is at 2850 pollygons. Well under the 3000 polly limit of IL2 FB. I went into FB to check out the original P-39, and WOW! What a differance! My model has 3X the details. The canopy frame, the air intake, the landing gear, the gun's, the flaps. Ow crud. I forgot the wing guns.

I will check with Oleg, but I remember him saying they removed them from the P-63's. I really like the little extra firepower on the P-39 Q1. It really helps disabling those DB engines on 109's.

I did it on Maya several months ago and it took about one week, its about 11000 polygons (including the cockpit with 75% of every nut and bolt represented).

It's pretty sloppy on the wings and many other areas but I can fix it up by redoing them, which is one or two day's work. Thinking about it I need to start working on some more planes soon to raise my n00b skill level several notches /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Next is the PBY after the P-38 and P-63 are in Oleg's hands. That will be in about 1 month. Yes they both will be flyable.

The main reason why I am able to do both in 1 month is I dont have to work on the pits. The P-63 will use a slightly modified P-39 pit, and Jeronimo has done the P-38 cockpit for me.

If I had people doing cockpits and textures for me, I could make anything flyable within 1 month. If I have to do everything, it takes about 3-4 months.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hate doing cockpits.

If Oleg and Ubi does agree to do add-ons, I would get paid. If the 1946 pack gets published, I would get paid. Me getting paid depends on your openion of 3rd party addons http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I dont really want the P-63 and P-38 to be paid add-ons. But if a Pacific addon does get the green light, cha-ching. Since I am accepting donations for the PBY, I will do my best to make sure its in a free add-on, but in the long run its up to Oleg and Ubi.

I am now accepting donations to help get the PBY flyable.

Gibbage, since you hate doing cockpits so much, why not do the Typhoon when Alex and Hammerd are done with it and get the cockpit from them. The Tempest and Typhoon had very similar cockpits with the exception of the gunsite I believe. When asked about doing the Typhoon I believe they said they might, but they may also give the cockpit away and have someone else do the external. They are not finished yet so it would still be a short time (I hope) away, but if you consider it I am sure they would be easy to contact. Just a hope and a thought, if not a premature one.

P-63 looks sweet btw, it will make alot of people happy. Nice work indeed.

Nice!

A list of different P-63 variants:

http://home.att.net/~jbaugher1/p63_3.html

Could we get the P63 A10 please /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

"The P-63A-10 had rocket rails fitted underneath the wings. The weight of the armor increased to 236.3 pounds. " Also at the end its listed as having underwing gungondolas with 900 rpg.

And since some wondered about wingmounted guns: "The initial production block was P-63A-1. It was virtually identical to the XP-63A production prototype. It was fitted with 87.7 pounds of pilot armor and had an internal fuel capacity of 100 gallons. It was armed with a type M-4 37-mm cannon fed by a 30-round magazine. There were two synchronized 0.50-inch machine guns in the nose with 270 rpg, and two underwing 0.50-inch guns with 250 rpg. A centerline underfuselage rack could carry a 75-US gallon auxiliary fuel tank or a 500-lb bomb"

Its odd that the americans only used it as a trainer too?

My mistake in my first post the sources are listed at the end.

In the movie Battle of the Bulge, Henry Fonda plays a US Army intlligence officer who flies over enemy lines just before the Battle begins, in Heavy clouds, trying to see if there are any tanks or other forces building up. he is flying in a little utility type acft, like a WWII pierpcub..I don't know the designation...think of it as being the US equivalent of a Storch. Anyway, at one point he has his pilot cut the engine off, so he can lean out and listen to see if he can HEAR any engines/tanks... It would be an intersting, unique, FB-addon (or will it be called ORB for OverlyRemembered Battles) mission. Instrument flying in the clouds, LOW altitude, maybe just an occasional opening in the clouds...lots of AAA down below...and a success only if you spot the tanks AND get back alive.

Now the thing is, somebody would have to model the "piper cub"...would that be a lot of work?? Too much for the experts? I suspect that a "simple" acft may not be any easier to model than a more "complex" one, but what do I know? It's all magic to me!

Related question: IS anyone doing a cockpit for the the Storch so that IT would be flyable???

Just curious what the experts think about it. BTW, I am one who would be perfectly willing to pay for "Approved" add-ons, both in terms of acft as well as maps/campaigns, etc... I always use this example: the next time you go out for a Good Dinner and a movie(usually not so good, these days) with the spouse or date, you will spend at least US$75, varying only slightly by location...bring along your two kids (or add on Babysitting fee plus tip) and you will be looking at well over a hundred bucks....all for just one evening of relative enjoyment. For a mere US$40, I personally got 15 months of IL2 enjoyment (Easily more than a thousand, perhaps a few thousand hours of 'flying'), and then since February of this year another several hundred hours of FB fun for a mere additional $40. By the time that I might Buy an upcoming "FB pay-AddOn", say before Xmas, I will just be matching that Hypothetical One-Night-Dinner-and-a-Movie-with-the-Kids expenditure. One night, versus what will be much more than two years, probably three years of fun!! How can you beat it...

Or, try a mere two rounds of golf on a weekend for easily $150 Plus!

A Good, or Great, software game/simulation product is the Best Entertainment Value around these days, by far!

SO WHY all the whining on these forums by people wanting everything for Freeeeee !!

[Hmm.. I think I'll put this last bit of philosophy up on its Own Thread, it's so good! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ]
