I'm after computer parts. I know I need RAM, so I'm getting an extra 256 to go in that spare slot. But I also want a nice TFT monitor, (don't care about quality much here, just want one which I can view things well), a whole new processor (very daunting to replace this though. I feel more comfortable with Intel for some reason, some kind of good P4 which would be good for gaming, will do me. This is guessing I CAN replace my Intel Celeron.)

I don't want to bankrupt my parents, mainly because I know I won't get what I ask for and I'll end up with some sh***y cheaper brand which will not do me any good. So, does anyone know a place where I could get these computer goods cheap? (If on the Interet, could you make sure wherever it is accepts cheques, becuase my parent's have concerns over paying by credit card online.)

Ebuyer is great ( i made my computer from there)

About getting new mem, make sure its the best type for the new computer system. (modern mem is different to your old style stuff) also a new p4 prolly wont fit on your old mobo... Im going out at the mo so dont have time to go into detail, give me a shout by email dude and i will help you out with choices. But ebuyer is a cheap and reliable site. (though not sure if it takes cheques...)

Should I scrap the idea of a new processor and simply go for even more RAM? Btw, I forgot to include a spec report http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif:

Intel Celeron 1400Mhz
Windows XP Home Edition
256RAM (dxdiag says 254)
DirectX 9.0c
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128MB
DVD drive (recorder sounds nice, macker though)

So could I hear what bits are going to run fine on SH3 and which sections would cause problems?

You need to buy

<LI>New motherboard
<LI>New processor
<LI>New ram (512 at least, type depends on your setup)
<LI>New Graphics card.

Ill price the cheapest i can find up for you after i get back from football, since you didnt like my super fly upgrade specs last time...

yeah dominicrigg. if you just add ram to a ****ty processor etc. you arent gonna get a whole lot of improvement it will just bottleneck.my advice would be to scrap the old PC and just get a new system. checkout www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) they have pretty good deals on stuff.adding newer components to an old system is gonna cost you as much if not more and just updating to a whole new system will save you lots of headache in the future in my opinion. Goodluck! And yes if i was you i would get away from that celeron and go with a pent.4,much better at multitasking. people say that AMD is the best for gaming as long as you dont mind crashes.the Pent.4 is much more stable. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

What 'people' are these? For every one you show, I can show just the opposite.
At least they (who?) were right about AMD being the BEST for gaming. The only thing the P4 has going for it is it's faster (only slightly) for things like video editing, but it has to be a version w/hyperthreading. Otherwise, AMD kicks b*tt in everything. Plus, did you know the P4 has hit it's top end? It'll never make it to 4Ghz because of power consumption and heat. Intel is devoting it's resources into the Mobile versions for future speed upgrades.

And where exactly have you heard that? Do you work for intel? Is it possible that maybe they might modify the processor in order to continue life in the fast lane? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Here's two articles: November 15, 2004 (http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,118603,00.asp) and January 20, 2005 (http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,119366,00.asp)

That's that's only 2. Need more? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

ok, what did i say that was untrue there keyboard commando.all i said is that AMD was better for gaming and that pent4 was better at multitasking. some people (you know, those 'Knowledgable teens')like to do other things besides gameing.i run on a pent.4 and have no problems with any games,so you can stick with your AMD if thats what you prefer and pay no mind to my gospel. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

You can't even scroll up a few posts to see what you did and didn't say?

What you said:
"..go with a pent.4,much better at multitasking."

And do you remember what I said? No? I AGREED with you about the P4 being better at multitasking.
"The only thing the P4 has going for it is it's faster (only slightly) for things like video editing, but it has to be a version w/hyperthreading." (that's the multitasking part in case you didn't know)

I also agreed with the 'people', not you, about the AMD and gaming: "they were right about AMD being the BEST for gaming."

What YOU didn't say:
"AMD is the best for gaming as long as you dont mind crashes.the Pent.4 is much more stable."

'PEOPLE' said that according to you, which is why I asked who the 'people' were.
And your answer - "What 'people' are these? At least they (who?) hmmm."

What kind of reply is that? And then to come back and ask what you said was untrue when NOTHING you said was. The 'people' were. Wake up and pay attention.

Who the h*ll is Leighman? Was he one of those 'people'? What did he have - P4 or AMD?

The term is 'layman'.

OMG, what's wrong with you? I ask a very SIMPLE question, which you fail miserably to answer. You accuse me of saying you told untruths, when I agreed with you. And then I correct your misspelling(Leighman is a proper name by the way), trying to help educate you. And all I get is tromped on the whole time. Let's see if you can tell the truth or if you can lie. Just take you're thumb out of your @ss first. Maybe that's distracting you too much. Or is it the wiggling of it in there?

U551 Kapitan : you will nedd additional 256ram and maybe you get a good deal for replacing your fx5200 with a 9600pro/xt or maybe a 9800pro, or 5900XT or 5900ultra. or 6600GT AGP-this would rock!
Anyhow, depending on your cpu socket, if you have socket 478, you could upgrade to a P4 2200-2800 as long as the new cpu's BUS is either 400 or 533 NOT 800. If you have socket 423, you still can buy a P4 2GHz, which is 2-3-4 times faster than your current celeron.
All 3 should cost you no more than 300$ in case of buying them , or 200$ in case of upgrade.

Good luck shopping !
