This is my 1st sub game. Going through the
in-game lessons and the manual I've managed to get the hang of the basics, but I'm somewhat overwhelmed by it all!
It'll be cool if any veterans here could make a step by step tutorial/guide to helps us noobs master the more in depth options and gameplay.

How about a video of an attack, would that help?

I haven't got my copy delivered yet so can't comment directly on SH4 tips but my advice, going on my memories of when I had just started playing SH3, is to take your time, save your game often, and be patient. It will come - you'll get there!

yeah http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Can`t wait for the TDC stadimeter to be fixed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif It now, in sh4, seems alot simpler to use TDC then it did in SH3. It would feel so much cooler to actually sink a ship almost like they did back then http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Pity there isn't a Prima Guide book for the game.

I just answered a similar question over in the SH3 forum. I know SH4 is in the Pacific, different protagonists, but the underlying principles should still apply.

I'm sure in time there will be a Community Manual, like the SH3 one - Here (http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/index.php?title=Main_Page)

If ya need any help-- feel free to PM me with any questions you might have. It's nice to see a new person come to our genre willing to broaden his (or her) horizons.

I have the same problem too in Torpedo Attack practice mission.

heres how it goes:
I know from countless earlier meetings in the same mission that this ship is a Mogami Heavy Cruiser with 3 turrets in front and a carrier deck on the back. So I find it in the manual and check the..... empty box? :P :P :P so the info is sent to the TDC.

Range: I know that when the Cruiser is exactly at 0 degrees in my periscope, the distance is exactly 1000 metres. So I check and send to TDC.

Angle on Bow: I know that when the Cruiser is exactly at 0 degrees in my periscope, the AOB is exactly 90 degrees to Starboard. Check.

Speed... Owh boy.. I donno where to start..
Il try like this, say what the manual says about this and add my small problems in parantasees in between : To begin the process, left-click on the clock icon on the data tool. This will take the first sighting and begin counting the time. (It doesnt count anything.. I have to click the start counting button on top of clock first :P :P :P) It is best to have the target locked at this moment (I done that already so check..) When satisfied with the expended time (35 seconds...) Longer is better, left click again( I assume the manual means the stop count button, so thats what I do..) This will conclude the measurement and display the results (WHERE??? I dont see them anywhere!! Let alone in the Speed thingy on top right??) As Always check whether you are satisfied with your approximation.. Im not satisfied because of obvious reasons: The cruiser reaches 0 in my periscope, I click fire on all tubes, I could make movie of this.. Some nice family seventh heaven music in backround as i fire the torpedoes and some rock music when it turns out they miss and the music ends as the cruiser dissapears in the horizon and sunset..

Need help...

I tried time after time to do the radar training but nothing happens. The only buttons that are selectable are the ones to switch between the 2 radars, the others are not clickable.
