Could anybody advise what is better to sink :
- coastal /small merchant ?
or
- small destroyer ?
(how are calculated reputation points for
different classes of vessels/ships ?)

Thanks vanjast.
Question is :
- I have last two-three torpeds and actually
visiting Loch Ewe - Is better to use them
against destroyers or wait outside for merchants ?
(what is more profitable - medals/promotions etc?)

I've found that the escorts/destroyers are the only ships in a convoy that can sink and attack you (except armed merchants that ram). So If I can dispose of them it usually leaves me with merchants which are either unarmed or slower than me and less manuverable.

One more thing. Always remember to set torps depth to one meter! Especially for armed trawlers they have a shallow keel. This makes absolutely sure that you hit the hull even destroyers in a rough sea can swell upwards away from your torps with magnetic fuses.

destroyers are too easy submerged, surface and have some fun, I always do.
Small merchants arent worth even surfaceing for and I never waste a torpedoe on them. I only attack smaller merchants with gun and only fire 5-8 rounds at waterline and leave, they just roll over after 20 mins or so and sink, other than that I never surface for them or go outta my way. If I get a radio report and intercept the target and its a small merchant it just piisses me off and I go find something else.

ive got a problem
im not the most serius sub simmer so i use automatic targeting and it works just fine except when i fire at a destroyer the torps always go under the ship
to avoid this i got into TDC and manually set the running deapth then i switch back onto auto targeting and fire... AND IT GOES UNDER ANYWAY http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
anyone know y??? i guess it jumps back onto deaper death after i leave TDC
its mostly costing my life when i disnt hit the DD

Good hunt and may u see be fertile http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

My problem is worse- torpedoes sometimes go THROUGH the ship!! as well as concrete docks once

Going back to the original question:

Coastals and Small merchants are better if you are after tonnage. Tonnage is what gets you the medals for your crew.

DD's are good for renown.

In each case they are approx twice as good. A merchant is twice as good for tonnage, a DD is twice as good for renown.

These things are the first things many of the large mods change.

Serious simmer or not, going after the escorts is probably never the best tactic unless it's life or death, or, there are only one or two escorts with a fairly large convoy.
The Germans wanted to starve the British, that means sinking merchant tonnage. Sinking a battleship or cruiser isn't going to hurt the British fuel supplies or their ability to feed the people, Just some thoughts.
