Hi all. I have just finnished an interesting book called"Danger UXB" which told of the bomb disposal units in the United Kingdom during WW11.One chapter told of the use by the Germans of the SD2 anti personel bomb,as late as june 1943,they dumped over three thousand in one night on the north sea town of Grimsby, killing and injuring many civilians.Onced armed and on the ground these devices were very dangerous, even with its small charge[225grams of HT]it had a killing radius of 80FT and shrapnel out to 500FT,they were still being found long after the war,in fact a game keeper after watching a television docomentry in 1978 had been wondering about the funny metal object hanging from a tree in a wood he had been patrolling for over 30 years. It was estimated that the Germans dropped another 11,000 over a wide area[London,Kent,Sussex,Essex.]before the end of the war. The United States copied the SD2 butterfly bomb known as the M83 and was dropped in large numbers during the Korean and Vietnam wars.A good discription and diagrams can be found on Wikipedia.cheers jeffmorgan
