It more or less hidden most of the day. Right before we were leaving, they rolled her out. Unfortunately I only had one pic left and this is it....

Ivan also posted a PBY Pic. The thing is, she looks new. I mean, I have seen pics of every PBY left in flight and some that are not flyable when I was doing my research, and I have not come accross this one. I think she is new! The non-standard coor behind the cockpit and forward of the aft landing gear is also new. I have seen similar systems on an Ausie PBY, but not like this one. She is also dressed up in early war paint.

Can anyone give me any info on this PBY? Location or owner? I would love to contact them as I am still doing research and work on the PBY, but for FS2004. Thanks! She is a lovly gall, aint she?

Nice one Orheim!

That one's from Flygvapen Museet in Link√¬∂ping. Next to it is a MiG-15 - Soviets shot down one Catalina on 16th of June 1952. Catalina was searching for a missing DC-3 which was also shot down by MiGs 3 days earlier.

If any of you guys visits Sweden, this museum is a MUST-visit-place!

yep you have to, this is where our beloved J8a is displayed as well...

Why is all armament and blisters removed on the swedish Catalina? I know they where used as transports, but why remove all of it? They would have been nice to have against those MiG's..

Maybe because it is displayed outdoors, we have rigourous weaponlaws in Sweden so maybe they just have dismantked all thses things for "security reasons"

Le PBY has much sweetness AND/OR w00tness, no?

I think similar wapons in Norway are welded useless, but I'm not really sure.
The blisters on the Catalina is uselss for guns anyway the way they has been modded on the swedish Tp-version.

I am glad to see that that chunck of greenbacks my squadmate donated to you last year will help get the PBY flyable in another flight sim. I am sure he is happy about that, seeing as he never flies that sim.

How about the ones that chipped in here to get the PBY flyable?

Never trust an add.

i didnt.

Now i do not wholey hold gibadge responsible. As he worked along, Some one at 1c should have told him it wasnt good enough. Or more that 1 person could do in such a timeframe.

Between them they crushed the pby for whatever reason, i do not know.

Fact so far:
Im not able to get in the pit of this plane. That sucks

I wanted to fly it bad. Bad enough to try and model her!

Everything I modeled but the Ki-43 started out as something I WANTED to fly. I was in a position that I could make my want become reality. I got everything I wanted, but 1 aircraft. She will fly one day, but sadly without the ability to drop bombs, torps, or man the guns.

Last Saturday there was an airshow near Edinburgh and a Catalina flew over my work place at around 200ft and 80mph, it was a little bit of a shock to hear two pratts purring out of the blue. It looked very large and slow, and beautiful too. To be honest it made me want to boot up Pac Fighters when I got home and shoot a few of them down, only to realise my pc was in my flat in Glasgow and not in Edinburgh http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Ya. They are big, slow, lumbering targets. But nobody can deny the pivital role they played in every major theater of WWII.

In 1941 a Catalina spotted the Bismarck through low clouds, just as British Naval intelligence were giving up hope and enabled Swordfishes from Ark Royal to be vectored against the Kreigsmarinne Battleship and for her to be sunk by the Home fleet, so theres a specific example straight away.

The great battle of Midway was started when a PBY Catalina spotted the Japanese fleet. During the battle, PBY Catalina's were not only attacking the fleet, but picking up down pilots in the middle of the Japanese fleet!!!! Very brave men.

Cool , didnt know that about Midway. Thats two major stragtegic naval battles it has directly influenced.

The one flying in the UK is owned by share holders if you cough up ‚£4000 you own a share in her and get to fly in her once a year I think. I like the gun blisters.

Have you ever seen a Shorts Sunderland in RL ? Ive seen 2 one in Florida , converted to be an airliner after WW2. It had 3 decks and a saloon bar sungged away in the rear section. It felt really Indiana Jones, and one in Duxford I think, that was proper Fleet Air arm version. They were brilliant, there is a story about one fighting off 6 JU 88C's it was called the flying hedge hog by Lufties.

Id like to see that in game some day and also to land the PBY would be nice too.

The Sunderlands were AWESOME aircraft. I loved how the bombs were on a conveyer on the wings from the body. Very cool. I have not seen one in real life.
