My jaw is still on the floor after looking at this screenshot from the french website.

I know it will not interest anybody, but I want to explain why this feature is so significant for me: http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

When I was a little boy of 4 years, I did my first flight in a passenger airplane from Hamburg to Berlin. It was a rainy day, grey and sad (as can be expected when you go to Hamburg http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).

I will never forget the feelings I had when the plane broke through the clouds, escaping from the rain and entering that unreal, beautiful white landscape in bright sunlight. For me this sense of absolute freedom will always be linked to flying as long as I live.

So, as soon as I got IL2 I set up a mission in rain, and I was disappointed. Sure, the sun was there when I broke through the clouds, but what was the foggy, grey something beneath me supposed to be?

Ok, sure, that did not stop me from playing the game for next few years, but still there was always the feeling that something was missing that was very important for me.

Again, thank you for filling that gap!

(only problem now is, now I REALLY can't wait for that patch!)

Yes they look good.

They look like higher density of classic FB clouds that can be increased in number by user to approximate overcast. I hope the shadows appear under the broken overcast. If so, we should see the sun shine in spots on the ground or ocean.

This should be the first True overcast produced for a flight sim, even if its not 100% overcast, as the overcast seems formed of individual clouds and not an abstract sheet. Its taken flight sim Developers 15 years to do this properly (LOMAC overcast failed miserably).

Now all Oleg must do is vastly increase the size of FB clouds that can be selected by player, making them 2 to 5km deep.

yes overcast looks great http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
user placeable clouds would be cool too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

now just need H2S, Gee and lancaster or glassnosed mossie http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

imagine onwhine pilot watch bombs dropping out of cloud, and onto target, never seeing the bomber http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

or mossies and tempests bursting out of the cloud, attack airfield, and then gone, just leaving towering black smoke from burning planes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I'm looking forward to cloud hopping with Mossie's...nothing like evading enemy fighters into an overcast cloud layer.

Just like in books and pilot accounts I've read. Those clouds are awesome and will make so much difference in the way this sim is played.

The new clouds are spectacular and will add a lot to online play but I wonder how much of a perofrmance hit they'll create. There is already a thread in the general discussion about the numer of players and object being too high for people with slower connections and computers. I say bring it on, I keep both my computers upgraded so i can take full advantage of new stuff like this but I feel bad for people getting edged out of online play on the better servers like greater green and warclouds because they can't play with so many planes and objects.

BigBear, from the screenshots, it seems that the cloud density may be variable, and if so, hopefully controlled by offline player or online server (Bad News if cloud density is set by online player).

Best is Random generated cloud positions for each mission, like ye olde 1995 DOS Su~27 Flaker 1.0

They really have to keep moving along I think. I know it starts leaving people behind...but half decently powerful systems are now $300 and $400 and toss in another $200 for a video card and you have yourself a machine enough to deal with these things. I'm not made of money myself (I'm a student) but I managed to get a good system two years ago and its handling everything I can throw at it mission design wise and multiplayer side...and thats with Perfect mode on.

So if the new FMs, the new clouds, and so on is starting to really hurt your play...either you need to do some software solutions and clean your computer up and see if that helps you out (a decent system run properly can be faster than a powerful system run poorly) or start looking at some sort of upgrade. Buy good stuff when you do http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

maybe a huge impact on rig demands (if I have interpreted former posts about this correctly), but for bombers and groundpound fans this is definately good news

So, are these new clouds just going to make it harder for us to see the AI, when it can see us just fine?

Is there any info on the new clouds, I'm starving to read about them http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Also is this pic showing comparison between new and old or is it showing just new clouds?

Well, you see a sky with clouds like the old ones, but now we probably get more possibilities, smaller clouds, bigger clouds and overcast. At least, thats what it looks like to me.

too bad AIs and flak will still probably be as irritating, as flak and Bots follow you, and shoot you inside clouds... big cloud masses like that, will make it even harder for the human to fight that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But, still im thrilled to see the new clouds in action ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Examining the set of eight cloud shots it appears the top two (old clouds) are in 'perfect mode' the remaining six were on 'excelllent'. If they can be run on perfect they will even look better. The new maps+ new clouds + new flight model =New SIM
