I think you'll run into the same problem no matter who you have for a wife. Mine gives me smack about it all the time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Guess you could find one who's as crazy about this sim as you are.... but then you'll be fighting over flight time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Guess you have to deal with it the best you can. If you figure out a good solution, let me know!! Good luck.

My missus came into the hobby room last Friday and said, "What??? You're on that bloody computer again??? That's it - I've had it with you and those ****ing games! Enough is enough! EITHER THAT COMPUTER GOES, OR I GO!!!!"

Not too sure where she went, but maybe I'll get a postcard one day.....

Just kidding!

Hey, guys, she just came in while I was typing this. She said, "It's not so bad. At least you're here where I can keep an eye on you. You're not out a-drinkin' and a-wenchin'!!! And stay off the porno sites!!! And the dating sites!!!"

Dude.

You made yourself a bond, promised to have and to hold as long as you both shall live

Don't get any ideas, btw....

Find a way to make her play IL2 as well, or explain the old adage: You' don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing.

All you have to answer her is "Yes, indeed, i play too much", then leave the house and come back late at night completely drunk.

After that, most wives are usually very happy to have a husband that use its free time to play computer games http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

NorrisMcWhirter

That doesn't always work as mine wants to come and get drunk also.

I have heard a lot of my friends gf's etc saying, 'Well, at least I know where he is at night' in reference to their game playing partners. Sounds like a mother referring to a child, though, eh?

My girlfriend asked me to buy her a joystick.

A few of our forum members are wives of other forum members. There's a few more @ HL that don't post here and a couple more over @ SimHQ.

If you are playing too much, she may want you to buy her the wrong kind of "JOYSTICK".

Well let's see... my gf usually arranges meals around my scheduled practice times with Team-USA, is concerned that she is using too much bandwidth (and affecting my ping) if she is on her networked computer, asks how "flying" went on most nites, has bought me strategy guides for other "games" (CoD/RavenShield)... so I guess I have some positive stories...

I love my wife dearly but it seems every bloody time I get on the computer to game I will get in a huge dogfight, and need to focus, or have to watch a wingmans tale. And at that moment my wife will call to me and destract me, and Boom no more wingman and i slam into the ground

However wheni am flying in open air she does not bother me or when I am not playing she does not bother me it could make a man weep

I have one positive story, I think.

I´ve been living with my girlfriend for almost three years now and she´s always trying to reduce my virtual flying hours, with no success, I must say. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
A couple of months ago we were having lunch at her parents house when her brother ask me: "What´s the deal about that computer game you play ....?" then he was suddently interrupted by her, and in a very serious tone of voice she said to him: "I´m sorry but your´re missing something, Forgotten Battles it`s not just a computer game, It´s a work of art in the shape of a flight simulator...."
I just started laughing, she just was repeating something that she probably heard me saying like a hundred times.... Finally, I convinced her!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
I think we are going to get married soon. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Mamabear has taken up beading.... she has actually gotten quite good at it.... earings, necklaces, bracelets.

She used to rag me about it... I remember one day in particular when she was hysterical... I'm talking foaming at the mouth, bug eyed hysterical.... needless to say I took a few nights off then.... Now since she is beading there is no conflict. It doesnt hurt that she is usually knocked out by 10 as well.....

I think that once she understood that this was more than just "a game" to me.. that there was a certain amount of history, research, comraderie and friendship wrapped up in my passion for simming she calmed down.

Hmmm tricky one I guess the reason my wife doesn't complain is that I am a far worse D.I.Y'r than I am a (Virtual) Pilot so the solution is to tell her if I wasn't flying I would be D.I.Y.ing

So far the house is still in one piece although I have been spending less time on the home computer of late and maybe its time to try and paint my office .... that should garuntee me a new flight stick and a quiet life for at least a couple of months http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Simple test - reduce your flying time just a little bit. Then watch the possible outcomes:
A) She still complains the same way -> get rid of her ASAP
B) She becomes a bit happier -> keep her and think of some compensation for the hours you waste with this stupid game.

Positive stories? Not in real life http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

No need.
She probably recognizes the feminine character of the sim and all women hates competition.

Give her a few extra days and show her that she is special and likely this would insure her that she still is number one for U.
Some flowers delivered to the house may sound trivial for us guys but can make a huge difference for a woman. Even if flowers aren't her thing it's the gesture that counts.

Even if we could figure out the eternal question, I'm not sure we would want to. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

The older I get and the older the women get, the more reasonable we all seem to be. Probably because we are just too tired to fight like when we were younger.

Plus, I share my rig with my woman. She only occupies it about 15% of the time. When that happens I whip out a book or flip on the TV. It really keeps the peace if I just let her take it when she wants it.

Wife-ack is the most deadly assailant in the game!

I don't have a big problem with IL2/FB/AEP/PF offline, I can alway hit esc and answer, but with Aces High there's just no pause button.

Just some advice to deal with this situation.
Woman have a natural need for spending about 20.000 words each day. If you get home from work, take about 20 minutes to let her come to her need by pretending to listen. Then you have no problem playing the rest of the evening.

Try it, it works for me.

I`ve heard some guys mention that their girlfriends/wives actually don`t mind them playing games on the PC, even actively encouraging it. I think these are probably the wise-women who realise it`s better than the men getting up to something they don`t know about. I mean, him playing a game versus him chatting up some other bird...

But some girls, like my ex, simply cannot stand the notion of a man on a computer playing a game. I don`t know what it is; maybe it`s a rival thing, she sees it as a competitive threat since you seem more interested in it rather than her (illogical I know, but it happens.

Tis a lucky man who can play IL2 regularly and the wife`s completely easy with it.

I suspect the man needs to put his foot down more as well and not be so afraid of losing a relationship. Something I did not do in the past.

hehe..Now you're talking. That was bathtime in 1979, I seem to remember. The winter of discontent meant that the council workmen couldn't fumigate my usual outfit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Don't get any ideas, btw....

Find a way to make her play IL2 as well, or explain the old adage: You' don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing.

Ok here's the deal... I like you guys so I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Here is how to fix the problem at hand.

The next time the Wife goes off about playing *games* on the computer all the time, push back from your desk look at her with that going spare look on the front of your head, blink a few times and then say with great sincerity, "Ya know honey, your right!"

Stop playing right then and there (hang with me here it's only temporary).

The next day stop on the way home from work and buy hundreds of pounds of kit for fishing/camping/hunting whatever.

***NB*** save the reciepts as you'll be getting your money back soon.

Start looking into scheduling fishing/hunting/camping trips with your co-workers or mates. If you don't have any friends that are into this type of thing make them up.

Have a wall calendar and start marking all the weekends you'll be gone doing more *grown up* activities.

If at all possible pick up new activities that span all the seasons and must be done in the wilderness and cost alot of money... (Most of them do).

You may actually have to go on a few trips (not all bad) but hold fast.

In no time, your wife will be asking you why you don't play computer games anymore.

Great tip, but, shouldn't we take the TIR Hat/Glasses/Reflector things off first? For the best effect? Or just leave it there?

I have been dating a nice girl from Idaho for over 4 months and and chatted/emailed on the internet and also talked over the phone for longer than that. And she does not even know that I play this game. I now live close to her ( moved to Idaho for her ) but she almost never comes over to my house and when she does I don't do anything on the computer at all.

It's a whole facet of my live she is totally in the dark about so far. And if things keeps going well between us, I will ask her to marry me. Then and only then will she even find out about
what I do on my PC besides email and internet stuff. If she ends up giving me flak about it, oh well. I think she's the type that won't care much. She believes she needs her space and I need mine. I got lucky in that department I think.

How many GFs or wives feel a guy needs his space?? Not many....My ex-wife seemed to tolerate my playing, only because I told her I'd do whatever the heck I wanted to do for a hobby, and if she didn't like it then there was the door. We did not get divorced due to my gaming hobby though, it was another totally different reason.
