One of the several dissapointments of this almost perfect game is that you don't have acces to detailed plans of the ports. Not even the one you dock at. As a result, the first several times I tried the game, I set up a waypoint, started to assign crew and check the map and stuff, and all of the sudden the sub crashed into a moat. WTF? Is the navigator and watch officer such a ******, that he just watches while the sub is going to ram a stone moat at full speed?

Since UBI has a great deal of blabber about this sim being so realistic, this is a great dissapointment.

I would also expect some air recon photos or maps of the enemy ports in case there is some docked ship that needs to be destroyed.

Anyone else missing this issue?

That's weird. Update 1.4b should have taken care of that issue by providing detailed harbor maps. Are you running any mods that might have disabled them? Are you sure you zoomed in enough to see the detail? More importantly, you are using patch 1.4b, right?

Some mods disable the port map. All you see is a dot instead of all the piers and such. It makes trying to get out of port on a foggy night extremely hazardous. Same thing when returning, but then again you do not need to go that close to end your patrol.

No detailed maps? Welcome to war the way it was according to some accounts I have read. Just finished readin Operation: Drumbeat by Michael Gannon for about the fifth time. Reinhard Hardegen, in U-123, took a type IX boat to the east coast of the US and raised havoc, sinking 22 ships n two trips. Maps he had of the east coast? Woefull inadequate. I think they ended up using something from a magazine like National Geographic that had been acquired through their Naval Intelligence folks. As for recon photos, well, quite honestly, recon might show you something, it might not. Certainly in the era of WWII, photo recon was likely to be extremely dated by the time you reached your objective. Ships can make way pretty quickly after all. Photo recon was much more timely and valuable for use in making bombing runs by the air services of both sides. As for having detailed info on your own harbor, I am running no mods, on 1.4b patch, and you just need to go to the map and zoom in until you can see detail, several zooms do it usually. Lays out the harbor, piers, etc, quite nicely. Certainly well enough to get you moving. Once your clear of obstructions, just zoom back out and you're good to go.

He might be right. Glitches happen. here's one:

I had a blip the other day. In dock, start of mission, St Nazaire. Move crew to various stations in prep for cruising, go to bridge, band is playing all is good to go. Then went to navigation screen to plot course to EJ whatever. Next thing, hull damage, port engine damage etc. Flick back to bridge, the boat is jammed into the back of the dock in full astern. Fat fingers? I don't think so, only used the mouse to begin to plot course. Got message from Navigator, "following plotted course". Keyboard was slid away on its slide tray. Never happened before. Odd!

Clicked All Stop, scratched head, ordered Ahead Slow, cleared dock, repaired damage, chastised WO and Nav by waving a Luger in their general direction while making dark threats about the Russian Front (again!) and put it down to Gremlins. Good help is hard to find?
