How much was camouflages responsible for torpedo misses in a percentage value?

I don`t think it is possible to determine this as a perceanage, but I certainly know what you mean.

I think the main purpose of the camo, or the "dazzle" paint scheme was to break up the ships lines so to speak when observing it. This would make it more difficult to determine the ship's heading, as well as to set up a torpedo fireing solution. As for the exact figures, I'm not sure they even exist, but I would think that although the dazzle paint may have thrown off some torpedo attacks, the figure is low.

Well, I know what was the purpose of camoulages, I'm just wondering if they were any good.

That ship camouflage Messervy is indeed marvellous, but, whoudn't such extravagant camouflages also reveal the ship's position by enemy planes?

That ship already looks quite bashed in...is it coming, going or sinking!?!

Grey is a suitable "nothing" colour and you would be suprised just how hard it is to pick up visually under anything but perfect conditions. Thats why my pleasure boat is white and red.

But radar and Elint changed all that...

The ship Messerv put the pic of, is certainly over the top, but the typical cammo' paint job made some ships almost invisible in rough weather.
Not only would estimating a ships heading be difficult, but determining range and calculating speed would be impossible.
The worse paint jobs were the neutral ships in the early years, painting a giant flag on the side - pity those paint jobs aren't in SHIII, would make TDC very easy
