Some time ago I shot the rear cannon of a Pe-8.

Saw some strange debris in the air efter spraying the tailgunner with 20mm from my 109. And after pausing the game and zooming a bit I found the cannon itself in mid air dropping to the ground. Took a screenshot but managed to delete it later.

This is the kind of detail that stil amazes me with this game! You can play it for years and still discover new things!

I still think its amazing seeing the pencil roll across the table in the navigators position in the TB3!

Well, I did an attack on an He111 which went down.

Later I replayed the track and looked at the gunner positions and as I fired I noticed the belly gunner`s gun got shot out and fell away!

But there`s lots of others:

1.Engine blocks falling out.
2.Props spinning away.
3.Wheels flying off past my cockpit.
4.Flaps.
5.Astonished looking Jerry pilot whizzing past (just kidding).
6.Watching an enemy AI (or human) plane hit the ground, roll over, losing wings, and bits and coming to rest below you. CFS3/every other sim just has them blow up everytime, no matter how slow/shallow they land (except EAW which did allow shallow landings).

The damage modelling still holds me in awe. I never quite know what will break up fall apart next. NO other sim has managed this degree of realistic destruction on aircraft.

One of the effectss I like most is when you shoot to your enemy´s wing root until it blows...then, the plane starts to spin and roll like mad in the direction of the missing wing. I like it because it is just as shown in so many original gun camera footages. So real it almost makes me shiver!

Actually,I´ve have been belly landed the P47 in CFS 3 without explosion. In B17 2 you can even bend your wings if they touch the ground.

In a small coop with my brother - a recent convert - he had to bail out - I switched to shift f2 to watch him drift, and about 5 seconds later a nearby 88mm flak burst killed him but left his chute intact - he didn't know wtf had happened till I told him - his screen just went black! When I did tell him he couldn't believe it...

Getoutahere! So that means that the little human figure itself has a (somewhat simple but nonetheless) damage model!

Obviously, since you can kill it with guns and cannonfire but fun that flak to can kill without damaging the chute.

Impressive!

With the original IL2 Sturmovik i was busting He111's one night with my La5FN...i lined up on a formation of 4 HE-111's...and in my first pass i shot the lead plane's topgunner's machinegun out of his hands... ( i deleted the screenshot a few weeks ago on a HD cleanup)

and some other time i was doing some tankbusting and got 1 of my wheels shot out of it's wheel-well, by a german tank... it was funny and weird at the same time.. but i could still land, despite 1 maingearstrut missing..

Il2 has things that keep on amazing me...
and indeed Seafire's list with shot off engines, wheels and stuff...just great..

On some of the planes (f not all) you can see the hydraulic suspesnsion working on the wheels as you watch them land.
That blew me away the first time I saw it, man, thats what I call attention to detail.

Janes WWII Fighters you could hit the ground and not explode/die immediately.

agh! I meant AI hitting the ground and rolling over. I haven`t seen any sim do it with AI fighters! The Human bit`s in error.

I forget how precise one needs to be when making a statement on the net...

It`s the AI I really mean. Sigh... typing fast and working is not a perfect recipe....

My most memorable would have to be an Online DF after AEP came out. I was in a P38, chasing a Diving 47, and i popped him with a 20mm. His hydraulics failed, and his gear dropped down. Now, this in itself i knew could happen, but i'd never seen it. Then, since he was going so fast, his gear ripped off, and one of them hit my left engine, and tore the whole front of the nacel off. at that moment i was in aww, and forgot to hit the diveflaps. SO i hit the ground about 690kpmh. I guess you could say the p47 got me after all http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
