View Full Version : Problem with sound on IL2 '46

Since installing '46, I'm getting a problem, which is this: When you press the fire button, on any aircraft, there is a delay before you hear the sound of the guns. Then, when you release the button, the firing sound continues, for maybe a second. There seems to be an echo where you can hear the gun firing twice, with a delay between the two overlaid sounds. I've made no alterations to my sound card settings at all. FB/AEP/PF 4.06 was fine, 4.07 immediately wasn't, and patching to 4.071 has made no difference.

It's a bit offputting to say the least. Looking at the muzzleflashes, they seem in sync with the trigger, it's the sound that is off.

Running on XP/SP2, sound card is Soundblaster Live.

First off I would like to say that I think the sounds in 4.07 are greatly improved. There is a bit of sonar effect but thats cool I dont mind the sound of a fly over.

The only bug I have noticed is one that has plagued this series from the beginning, and that is the fading in and out of sound. Especially the engine sounds where they would be quiet and then very loud.

I was still running medium sound settings from my original Soundblaster Audigy days. Now I own a Soundblaster X-FI and figured why not set them to max! So I went to:

32 Playback channels
Headphones
3D engine mode to (FULL)
44100 Sampling rate
Hardware enhancements and Hardware acceleration enabled.

Now my sound is perfect! Give it a try and see what happens. You will need a hefty card though because high sound quality does play a huge role in FPS if the CPU is needed for the calculations. Especially in this sim.

Havok,

Despite from shooting me down a few times in my betty tonight I agree with you here, I am having the same sound bug as you are.

The engine noise fades in and out, from being really loud and nice, or a little softer. It is really annoying and only started happening to me in the 4.071 beta patch.

I myself have been running maxed out sound with my X-Fi and Sennheiser headphones since Christmas and wow, it made this sim much betterhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But please fix the fading sound bug! Glad im not alone.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Hi all,

Yep I've got the same problem of sound fading in and out and have the same X-Fi(Music) sound hardware.

This happens with a few other squad budies too.

Just fiddle with the sound settings!! Remember all settings for video card and soundsettings where reset to game default with 4.06... Also the conf.ini file is reset to game default! First thing I did after installation was to compare my old conf.ini file to new one and changed the new one to match the old one. I never noticed the loss of FPS or change in sounds!! Dont think there sfould be any since it isnt in the readme, just fiddle with ur sound settings in the game!

what I get in regards to sound issues in 1946
is that if it get hit I will see my canopy and wings all shot up but wont hear the hits.
also if A guy crashes into the ground I don't hear the boom.
it doesn't always happen but it happens enough to be an issue. not sure if this is a packet loss thing or a 1946 thing but I have never seen it before<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have the very same setup as you. Same card and headset if you have the Sennheiser PC150s that is. Since I went to maxed out settings across the board early yesterday I have not noticed the fading. I also made sure that EAX under gaming mode console was unchecked. Reguardless if its fixed for me it still needs looked at for the rest of the folks.

Ill be sure to let you know if the fading appears again. I hope it dont because this is the best this sim has sounded to me.

I been flying bombers more myself the B-25 mostly. Although its not very good for my k/d ratio...lol, Im having a lot a fun. I have been flying fighters so long I forgot how much fun moving some mud really is. So Im sure you will return the gesture sooner or later. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Havok,

I have the 280s, they are very nicehttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I also have sound maxed across the board, but have EAX checked in my X-Fi gaming audio console. I will uncheck that and report back and see if that helps get rid of that fading...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
