View Full Version : Permission To Distribute Icon Removal Program

Oleg and crew,
I have written a little program to "remove" the display of icons from track files. I would like to distribute this program and/or source code for free with a request for a donation if users like it. I don't want to step on any toes here so please let me know if this is O.K. with y'all.

If you don't want this released, I could setup a web service that would process track files uploaded by users and return the icon free track file to them.

If possible, it would be great to have the track file specs (especially online tracks). Non-disclosure and non-compete agreements are not a problem.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

-Outlaw.

Cool!

I bet you can't do it with ntrack files.

Can you?

Show your support guys (and developers).
Think of all those lovely tracks you have and being able to view them without the clutter of icons...

My plan is to wait until Wednesday afternoon (U.S. CST) for a reply. If nothing by then I'm going to release it.

I'm not familiar with the ntrk format enough to know whether they mean to encrypt it. Obviously ntrks are compressed, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are encrypted. It probably doesn't take much to reverse engineer the compression method and thus edit ntrks just like you we used to be able to edit the old non-compressed track format.

Seems like the "nice thing to do" is to ask the developers and see what they say. Glad you're taking that course of action http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Considering that a .trk file is merely a script that can be edited in any text editor, you're not in any way interfering with any of the game code, I can't imagine that your software infringes any copyright issues or anything.

I reckon you'd be safe to release it.

Better yet they could simply allow you to toggle icons on and off during play back of any track file...

btw how's it going with the ntrk files, I understand that this software is just for trk, so are you working on ntrk? Cheers.
