Anyone else uncomfortable with what's going on there now?

Just a bit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The board seems to have survived the initial takeover, but I don't know if it will survive Dus's counterstrike, especially if Alex won't let it go and things escalate even further. Thank goodness we have MC to flee to! Except, oh wait, that's down too right now ... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Wow. Who'd had thought a community commited to a non-violent game could cause such powerplay.

.....is that why UO is down this evening? Oh no. I was able to go on all the other Myst boards.

What's all this about a power struggle? Struggle for what power? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I remember Dusante very well from beta Uru. I haven't read many posts by him lately on UO. I thought he must be busy with RL.

That's a darn good question. It sure can't be the cash flow. I guess it's more like a fight over emotional investment or psychic income. A "matter of principle" situation.

Is this still about Douglas Sharper? Why won't people just let go? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Choose your obsession -

In all my years of internet lurking I've never witnessed anything a) so confusing and b)uh... so confusing.

Yeah. I was afraid Dus's counterstrike was going to cause an escalation somehow. Sometimes I hate being right.

What's next? Will the lawsuits start flying? Will one of the sides show the wisdom and maturity to give it up before a great community resource is totally destroyed? (And with only a month to go before M5 is released!)

Even more confusing is that both sites right now seem to be claiming that some of the same staff has joined their righteous cause. Some of the long-time users have already chosen sides.

Humpty Dumpty is sitting on the wall as we speak, and looking pretty off balance.

(And what will the ripple effect do to the rest of the community -- here, DPWR, MC, etc.)

Hi there, I'm sad too that this had to happen. I never would have done this if I had the full support of the team, which is the case. To me it's not about power, the team runs the site and it always has, even though I'm the "official owner" for real it's a place for the team and the members.

I notice a URL to Gehn's version of UO was taken down as being "illegal" at your version of the site. I don't know the legality or what you're all planning to do about the dispute (I'd assume that it'll end up in court the way things appear) so I'll leave it up to the mods to decide if they want to take the link down here.

Personally I think you guys should try to rectify it between yourselves. There shouldn't be much confusion for the community as the second forum isn't easily found, but if I were you, I wouldn't drag them all into a dispute about ownership nor ask them to take sides. People settle where they settle, if you know what I mean.

It seems that the second forum has recently become much easier to find, somehow. Now I can't get to Dus's version at all. My lookup tool shows Alex's IP address for uruobsession.com. Maybe it's just some flakey DNS propagation thing going on.

Edit: Nope, not a DNS propagation problem. I'm not alone -- others are in the same boat. Looks like another skirmish in the war.

I come through to the mirror site, which is apparently Dus's but is where the majority community is. Have to say, Dus, you guys aren't coming off well because of those idiots who've decided to tear apart Alex's server. Good to know you're trying to clamp down on that though.

Way I understand it is the MO/UO mirror is going to become Adventure Obsession. Was this the idea all along? Was it a disagreement between those who wanted to keep it Myst (Alex) and those understanding that Myst as a saga was ending and wanted to move on?

Whatever, I hope you guys understand that there are already established sites for AG's out there. Good to see you're being inclusive though. Although Zelda isn't an AG. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif (see AG'ers "wikipedia" thread for more info/fighting about that one)

I've always liked MO/UO and really hope things do not denegrated to the point of back-stabbing. Indications are this has already begun but let's hope it is remedied soon. The idea of lawyers becoming involved sickens me. Not that I have anything against lawyers, but any monies needed for servers will quickly evaporate.

Seeing as how it took over a week for the first refugees to hit DPWR, and they only showed up, I think, because every other Myst site on the internet imploded at the same time (*attempts to look innocent http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif*), I think at the very least DPWR can be considered something of a back-country haven from this craziness... at the very most we'll just get ignored. There are times, I must admit, when running a small, quiet community does have its perks.

Dussie, I wish you guys willing to stick it out the best of luck, however this end up panning out. Much as I don't hang out at UO/MO, I recognize its importance and place in the community in general, and i would be a shame to see it disintegrate because of what's happened over the past couple of weeks.

And as an aside, you may want to check your phrasing... " I never would have done this if I had the full support of the team, which is the case" seems the wrong way of saying what I think you actually mean http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

The things I find when I can't sleep! I don't usually go to the off-topic section of our forum.

I think (or more correctly I hope) that any unpleasantness will soon die down. I'm sure that the confusion about finding Myst/Uru Obsession will abate after the new IP address gets propagated, and mystobsession and uruobsession reliably goes to the site is always has. When I checked earlier - I wasn't seeing any errors, when I go to mystobsession.com or uruobsession.com - it's going reliably to the site it should go to.

Just to reiterate - whatever your views on the whole thing - all are welcome here.
