Probably get pummeled by someone like poor Boosher did, but I know there are several Z car enthusiast/owners lurking around here somewhere.

In a momement of weakness, my friend, after running out of patience, time, money and steam, asked me if I wanted his 260Z project car. I surprised him and wrote a check on the spot. I stole it, but he set the price.

I've had 2 280ZX Turbos and currently own an '88 300ZX, but this will be my first resto. The bad news is it's in boxes. The good news is the engine has already been refurbed, the car only has 33,000 miles and it's ready for the paint booth. My goal will be for near-factory specs with maybe wheels and other minor updates. Something like this:

I know some won't give a rat's backside, so please ignore this. For Z lovers, share some restoration horror stories by PM.

S!,
Good looking Z. I've owned two myself in my younger days. My first, a 1970 240z, was stock w/ the teak wheel, factory mags, and handled like a dream. My second, was a 1972 240z, had a 280Z five speed w/ Weber triple dueces, BBS wheels, headers, Monza exhaust, Blistein shocks, and a MOMO wheel. That car would flat getup and go!! I had it on the track at Road Atlanta time trials. What a blast to drive around that track. I don't remember my lap time, but I did manage to get that machine up to 134mph!! Not bad for an old inline 6.

BTW, don't go down that road of dropping V8s into such a sweet car. It ruins the handling and the overall nature of the car.

If I were you I'd go with those rims if you can. They look great on that car. I have those same ones (Panasport Minilite replicas) on my Miata. Although my Miata has been a daily driver since April 1990, so it's looking a bit more beat up than that Datsun pictured. Cool car, good luck with it.

Great little car!
Upgrade the suspension, lower it and put nice rims on it an you'll have a nice ride. Skip the rice stuff - wings, spoilers and such stuff.

man the 260's are cool (kinda feel it & the 240 had classic written all over it , unlike the 280's)

thats right , classics , just like the 2000 GT

I have a 82 280zx 2+2 5spd n/a t-tops... brakes failed 4 days ago.
finished repairing the brakes yesterday and changed the oil earlier today.
I probably wont ever restore it like it needs and the only mod I have done to it is replacing the engine driven cooling fan with two electric fans but I love driving it, especially in the summer.

@Buzz - Yes, the V8 kit briefly crossed my mind. Can't pass up the stock 33k mile motor.

@Heinz - Nice, you've had some "real-deal" Zcars. The 240's carry a bit more panache, but I am happy the early 260 looks identical and I've got the trim Euro bumbers.

@Wilburnator - Fully agree on the Panasports. They have that updated large dia wheel benefit but with classic wheel design.

@Jasko76 - Yes, absolutely no rice will be used in the building of this car. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

@Badsight. - Yup, first true classic I've owned. Don't tell me you have one of those beaut's pictured...http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

@tralkpha - I'd take my '83 Black ZX Turbo back in a heartbeat. Really like that series.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

MAN THAT THING IS CLEAN LOOKING! If it is a 260Z than it has the old 240 bumper? That is it looks like he removed those silly crash bumber extentions they put on the 260s? Unless you live in euro where I dont think they ever had them? I have a 72 240Z that Im planing on restoring as soon as I get done with my 1967 NISSAN PATROL (yes NISSAN not DATSUN) here are a few pics. I have restored the engine and trans, breaks and drive train, now just the body.. but I have to admit, all the dents and scraps are growing on me... gives it charter! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I do get the strangest looks when Im going down the freeway with the top off and windsheild folded down! Next best thing to riding my motor cycle! I got pulled over by a cop once.. He asked me why I have the window folded down.. I told him BECAUSE I CAN! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Prepare to be pumelled.

You guys so desperate for friends we have to hear every boring detail of your lives. It's a sim for Christ sake. Can't we come to the forum without 40,000 useless OT threads. If your so into your wheels start a forum for Datsuns. Leave the Game forum to the GAME.

End rant.

The part that really blows my mind is after all those mistakes you felt the need to chim in with your ASSumption about the state of our lifes! Talk about someone that needs to get a life!

Learn somethin new every day. Didn't know the Patrol was sold under Nissan instead of Datsun. Looks like it could go just about anywhere.

Mater of fact I think only here? Lots of rumors as to why the switched from NISSAN to DATSUN, but, the PATROL was one that they didnt change over to DATSUN. The PATROL sold like hot cakes in AUS and in So. America.. But they did not catch on here in the states.. The TOY Landcruser did though.. Im told that the PATROL was about $200 bucks more than a Landcruser.. Which back in the 60s was alot of money! Thus the TOY Landcruser got a foot hold that the PATROL never unseated here in the sates. From 1964 to 1969 they only sold about 3000 PATROLS in the states. And there are only about 400 of them left that still run. In 1964 motortrend did a comp between the Jeep, Patrol, Landrover, Landcruser, and the PATROL won as best of the best.. Bigger engine, bigger axes, the boot.. But it never caught on, even though Roy Rogers was one of the spoke holes! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just a few pockets here and there in the body.. The frame is perfect. Im just kind of torn about what to do.. Restore it to like new, or, enjoy it as is? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
