I just installed 46 (ver 4.07) and now my when I go to the gunner positions I can view them but I have no control to fire the gun and aim it around. Has anybody had this problem or did I change some setting and messed it up?

Even after you hit autopilot once in position?

I have trouble makeing auto pliot come on and off from gun postions too, but I've had that from long ago, any version.

I'm experiencing this after 4.07 also. Some positions are "autopilot" by default, even if you've just jumped from a player-controlled position like the pilot's seat. Hit your autopilot key to take control of the gun.

Trouble! Yes!

Firstly he never shuts up! Secondly, when I am trying to sneak away - he ALWAYS opens up on some lame target that he never hits!

If I had a my revolver I would turn around and blow his head off!

Mine never says a word, except "Oh no! what are you doing?" when I try to evade the fighter he didn't bother to mention http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

I would love for the rear gunner to warn you that an enemy AC is coming up behind you. Sort of like Feathered said. You hear nothing from him and then all of a sudden you are being shot at by the AC he didn't bother to warn you about and THEN COMPLAINS about your wild maneuvering to boot!

Actually they are all clons from the same bad rear gunner made by the Kamino Cloners

http://www.ebondi.com.au/images/swfigures/medium/Taun_We_Kamino_Cloner.jpg

for the Russians bacause they were very short of men willing to die after 2-4 missions in the cold and uncomfortable rear seat of an IL-2.

Unfortunately it turned out that the original that all the clones were cloned from was a lousy shooter, but they could do nothing about it since someone already ordered and paid them already ten years ago and so they had to use them.

And since all the clones were grown with growth accelerators to get them ready for combat as soon as possible they had some communication problems and also always fell asleep when flying combat missions so they only noticed when they were shot at when it was too late.

So this is the real story of those poor rear gunners of the russians. Don't be so harsh with 'em, they are only clones, too!

Like I said, game behaviour seems to have changed with the last patch. Indeed we'll just have to remember to hit both before leaving and after entering a station. Just a minor bit of culture shock.

The setting "Toggle Level Autopilot" is the setting that will have autopilot switch on and off automatically when you jump into a gunners seat.

Only the Il2 has a talking rear gunner. My guess is that since the game was originally going to be just the one aircraft that was the only one ever coded to have the rear gunner speak.

Hi, Like Sensei said,

Go into your Controls, under MISC, look for Toggle Level Autopilot, assign a key to it, that should do the trick.
Not to be confused with Level Stabilizer under Aircraft Controls.

It's advisable on IL2 and imperative on IL10 to turn off the rear gunner. He wastes precious 150 rounds into the empty sky when enemy is maneouvering 2 km away, and runs out just when bogey closes to 50 meters dead 6.

Online, if flying against IL2/10, you just have to lurk around his tail at a safe distance for a few seconds (giving him enough time to empty the ammo), and you are free to attack http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.
