Amazing footage. Seems the Hellcat had a problem with the arresting hook tearing off the rear half of the fighter if she was going too fast. I can see why carrier ops were so demanding on men and equipment. The slow motion stuff of the Corsairs landing really show the punishment the gear and airframe had to endure.(Not to mention the carrier decks and spinal columns of the aircrew) Great stuff http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

thats impressive, some of those look like my carrier landings. you know the ones with the flames, **** over top, and planes splitting in two.

~S!

I give thanks that we have the opportunity to look back at such brave men. Its sobering to me to reconize that we very likely witness the death of two F4U pilots in those clips.

I'm getting soft in my old age. I choked up after he made it. Those men....well, I don't have the appropriate words to express my gratitude.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Amazing footage!

Still, one has to pity those poor blokes in those flaming planes, regardless of them flying for the aggressor. What an awful frikkin' way to go http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I loved the song on this one..my stepdads brother Robert Valdez was killed on the bridge of the USS New Mexico by a Kamakazi hit off of Okinawa..and on the landing beach of that island my dad Harold Jackson was injured by a bomb fragment from a Japanese aircraft...and I was blessed to break tortillas with a dear friend Mr. Herman Tafoya many times..he survived the Batann Death March. God Bless them.

It seem those Corsairs are using full flaps for takeoff.
