...so I decided to adopt my first sig, a Republican poster from the Spanish Civil War.

Lots of positive ju-ju to counteract all the evilness about to otherwise come my way: Selflessly fighting for the Republic alongside Communists and Anarchists, flying cr@p planes, all for a lost cause.

Hmmm...maybe I better rethink this.

Superstitions are silly and only cause unwanted stress.

This is what you gotta do;

First you'll need holy water. If you have none it's easy to make. Just fill a pot with ordinary tap water and boil the hell out of it.

Next you'll need eye of newt(Gingrige if possible)

Three icecubes (cold if possible)

a dozen tree frogs from the Gobi (hard to find)

12 bottles of you favorite beer

the forth toe from a three toed sloth

one dependable bottle opener.

two bags of Cheezies

Mix the eye of newt, the forth toe, the ice cubes, and the dozen frogs in the holy water.

Keep the bottle opener within reach. Drink the beer and eat the Cheezies. Then post how you feel the next morning and there you go, you've pased the dreaded 666 post count. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif... The doomed Apollo 13 space mission brought the unlucky number to the forefront of the media. Apollo 13 was launched at 1313 hours (USA Central Time), from pad 39 (3 X 13) and was aborted on April 13, 1970, two days after launch.
It is worth noting that there are 13 moons and 13 menstrual cycles in a year.

You stole my sig http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif!!!Well, it MIGHT have been had I got around to working out how to make one. It's a great image though, isn't it? I set it as the background for the SCW campaign of Gaston's that I'm just starting to go through. It is a blast, all those crazy early planes charging around about 700m off the ground for the most part. It's made me a big fan of the I-16. Now I look at 109s approaching and feel pity for them in their unmanoeuvrable crates, while I wait for them to zoom past so I can jump on their back and start pecking away with the wobbly green-jelly-bean death-rays.Fools - they are doomed, DOOMED, I say...!!!!

The number 13 first became know as unlucky when the King of France and the Papacy killed the Knights Templar. I forget the exact date but it also had a few 13's in it.

I always thought the belief in unlucky or lucky numbers was quite funny. The Chinese believe 4 is unlucky due to it's pronunciation. It is pronounced exatly as the Chinese word for death, the only difference being the intonation.

I like to ask questions like "Are you sure 4 is unlucky?" and always get a yes response. Then I ask "Why is it not unlucky in the western societies?". That usually ends the conversation. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

BTW, 666 means luck in China. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Hey Flatspin, I got the website from one of your posts, I believe, so you are certainly welcome to take it over--there are many other great ones on that site I can use. Let me know.

As for the I-16, I really enjoy flying it, but I also like the I-153. It's no good against 109's, but is okay against other biplanes and with the RS-82 rockets is fun to attack ground targets or bombers. Something about it. The machine guns and cannon sound really good for some reason--I guess it's the open cockpit, but then again, I don't notice it quite the same with the I-16. Anyway, a blast!

Thanks for the recipe, Fritz.

Woofie, your menstrual system cycles 13 times a year? Same as my water softener! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

BTW Saunders, if you are interested in how the 666 superstition started, here you go:

It is quite simple after you recognise the constellations in the northern hemisphere, go to Polaris the current pole star in the tail of the Little Bear which is at 90º

Deduct half the tilt of the earth which is 23.4º from the 90º and you are left with 66.6º

Draw an imaginary line from the centre of the earth into outer space bisecting the earths surface and you will find the ecliptic pole in the first coil of the constellation Draconis.

The Serpent is always above latitude 66.6º North and this is why the Vikings in Norway which is centred on 66.6º have the Serpent as their symbol and the early pre Viking Christian Churches at that latitude are decorated completely with Serpent signs.

The superstition comes from those early Christians that once knew the system and were evicted from Ireland by St Patrick, Ireland's Roman Catholic Patron Saint.
