This has been discussed a bunch of times now...

It's a marketing thing, amongst other things.

Who cares about the name ... there are more important things at hand.... like making quality sequel to HoMM serries.

The name is just that, a name. I would like to have a good game, no matter if it's calle M&M:Heroes or Heroes of the Gods XD I don't mind. I would "prefer" if you call that to have a Heroes of Might and Magic, but.. it's just a name.

Just a name. Not really a huge deal i think. More important bit is the actual gameplay http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You shouldn't take this to heart, methinks. It'll still be HoMM VI for us, right guys? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Let's wait to see if the game is good or not before deciding on that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Not sure if anyone's noticed it before, but...

It's been MM: H since Heroes V. Check it out on the box. (http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/70/53/81/17/0070538117251_215X215.jpg)

As far as I know, the only difference is that this time they're mentioning it.

They've probably changed the name because of the big changes to the play-style, ie, 4 resources, mines connected to towns, a greater focus on RPG elements, etc.

The entire Might & Magic branding started between H5 and Clash of Heroes + Kingdoms

Still as I told the dev-team, the brandmanager, the com-dev etc.
It will always be Heroes of Might and Magic to the fans... even if they think its Might & Magic: Heroes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think this rebranding instills confusion and mixups with the RPG-brand.

Goran: The gamesplay got the "Heroes"-feel sofar.

It's still HoMM. With a twist http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

They changed the name before they talked about HoMM6 (for me it will always be HoMM :P) Goran, so... i don't think it's because the changes of HoMM6.

@Oakie: Ur signature doesn't work anymore? :P

The WWRTF forum went offline some time ago. Used it during the Dark Messiah beta and such http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As long as it has "Might and Magic" and "Heroes" in its name, I'm fine as far as the naming of the game goes... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I ususally call it Homm or just Heroes. My buddies know what I mean since we all play it still. HoMM5 is still often played, wish they would patch the horrendous AI though.

Philosophical marketing questions aside (which name sounds better / appeals more), there is an obvious practical marketing question that is probably the main reason:

With old ".. of Might and Magic" branding, in each catalogue (on a shop, a online site, etc.) you had Heroes in the 'H', Might and Magic in the 'M', Dark Messiah would have been in the 'D', Kingdoms in the 'K', Clash of Heroes in the 'C' etc.

With the "Might and Magic..." branding, all games fall together on a cluster under the 'M' Easier for the franchise to be found, easier for cross-selling franchise products, etc... Yes, the names may be odd-sounding, but they are practical... enough said for the "numbers" guys.

To search for something you have to know it exists.
