well I found the fix for the 50 cal's they need to be made from nylon. I wish I had the screenie of it, but today I bailed out of my 38 while it was in a slow climb, when my chute deployed and got caught on my tail boom and ripped my plane in half http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif what up wif dat???? that has got to be the problem all along, we've been using AP 50 cal. they need to be made out of nylon.

Yeah, and if you shoot the guy his corpse will just dangle there.

However we are not allowed horses in the game because shooting them would get rated as "to violent" by the censors

Shooting chutes is half the fun of the game!
Hammering the guy dangeling from the chute
is challenging.

The FM for a couple of .50 cal hits to the chute's canopy is big-time "Uber",while the effects of a single round of 20mm Hispano to the mid-section of the man riding the chute, are seriously "porked". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It's a matter of integrity. Shooting animals, even virtual animals, is not nice.

By the way, WWII parachutes were mostly silk, weren't they?

cheers

WW II parachute canopies were silk, the cords were nylon. Well known issue of planes in IL2 being destroyed if they contact a parachute. Is that accurate damage modeling? No.

As for shooting the dumb animals (no, I don't mean the AI pilots and crew), I think Jane's WW II Fighters had deer that could be shot.

Why would you want to be able to shoot animals? Bad experience in your youth? Too bad...

If you guys havent noticed yet, IL2 is about air combat - not about strafing animals and the people guiding them (even if horses were used for dragging carts around - sometimes with military content).

I'm the kind of person who also does not shoot at chutes either because I respect my enemies and shooting them down is enough IMO. Anybody doing that is an honourless dog (which btw is an insult to dogs because they are intelligent animals) in my view and deserves to die the same way (btw I do kill people who do that online on purpose... serves them right; eye for an eye...)

Sorry for freaking out but I've seen enough of this BS

I thought IL2 was a ground attack plane?

True, but I also guess that its main targets by far were APCs, tanks, artillery, fortified positions, etc... not horses

unless "RS" in RS-82 and RS-132 stands for "anti-horse" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

You're forgetting the most common military transport in the German and Soviet armies was the horse-drawn carriage, so you think it would make sense to look for the trucks and leave the carts alone? If it bothers you (assuming we has horse drawn carts) you could just shoot the carts and leave the horse alone...

More than a legit target.....

"By Nov 1941, horse losses mounted totalled 102,910 killed and 33000 sick or unfit."

Online might be the only place I could see not shooting the chutes. Offline, your just wasting ammo, but who cares.

Put some horses in. Maybe some elephants and tigers, too. I've read .50s are excellent against tigers.

This is a game isn't it?

If this ain't a game, you better throw me in the clink as a serial killer. "But, I was just following orders!"

I agree with Han Freak Solo-if the fellow under the chute represents some real pilot somewhere(meaning online),I'd leave him alone-if he gave me a really good scrap,I might even give him a fly-by and a dip of a wing.

But,if some dirty demon AI gunner(off line) hurts my engine where I have no chance of making it home-I'm gonna take everything in sight out, while I still can.

War is hell......

If I as a pilot in WW2 saw a Horse pulling german soilders it would be free game just as much as the Grunts.

Shooting a pilot in a shute with nowhere to run or hide is a nasty thing and would be punished if I were running a squad, wing, group, or whatever during times of war.

thats like sticking a rabbit on a pole in your yard and shooting it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif, the makings of a serialkiller in my eyes.

It is these types of choices that draw a line between a cold blooded killer(a person who has the next hotest cornor of hell beside the rapist) from a soilder.

What is even cooler and more challenging than shooting just the pilot and not the chute, is to shoot the pilot/crewman even before his chute opens as he's falling at high speed. I do it all the time and it's so funny to see "sparks" when the bullets hit his apparently metallic body.
Quite a show!!!

Everyone knows the only way to take out the horses is to shoot your .50cal rounds under then, skipping them off the pavement and bouncing them into it's scantly armored underside!

This is historically accurate, therefore it should be in the sim!
This game is nerfed! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Not entirely .. if the AI in the chute is a named "ACE" landing in his own territory it may actually have a point. Not that persoanlly I would bother.

As for the horses .. horse drawn limbers and cart which historically were vastly more common than trucks in WWII would be cool .. even if the horses were invulnerable and could not be killed.

Hey maybe we should make Oleg implement a replay feature with a closeup how projectiles tear bodies of humans/animals.All those guts flying around. That would be sooooo cool http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
