thats interesting. It appears tthat even the RAF thought that performance wise, the 39 could compete wiht german fighters at low altitude.

Interesting that they mentioned the fact taht combat in the pacific was at similiar altitudes but was disasterous for the 39.

Anyone who wants to increase their knowledege of the much-maligned and often unfairly crticized P-39 should begin by reading this article. I think it pretty much nails thing on the head.

In a sense, the P-39 was an example of what has been called "aviation Darwinism"; it was a mutation that needed a suitable environment to flourish in.

I like the P-39 and I admire the pilots of all nations who flew it. ............and Enforcer572005, I need to work on getting a groundcrew that looks as hot as yours. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif
