On patrol 2, having totaled up 133,000= tons and with one torp left I came on to a large cargo which I struck at less that 500m right where I shoot all the time.It went down all expect the bow. So I sat there for days and days and weeks and weeks with it near me ( less than 500m) --IT DID NOT SINK!!!

I repeated the shooting with different aim points--- SAME results--- BOW or STERN was up about a few feet for EVER> Seas to rough for cannon fire.

Forget that ship and moved on. Fount a large merch.---- SAME D__M thing OVER AND OVER.

SAME thing on the next THREE SHIPS.

Headed home with the GHOST TORP and reloaded.

FIX THIS!!!!

A string of bad luck maybe? Now, i don't have GWX-2, but that happened to me in stock game as well. Some ships go off like fireworks from one hit, others can take multiple hits anywhere, bow, stern, engine, fuel...

It depends on what they carry (empty, cargo, fuel, ammunition), as well as luck.

Compartments like engines, fuel and ammo bunkers have a % chance of going off in one hit. You have to:
a)Trust your luck, and
b)make an IMPACT detonation. Magnetic does NOT work with this % chance. I went digging through files and found that a while ago.

Now, if you have bad luck, the ship won't go off with 1 hit, and it won't sink since the impact torpedo doesn't do as much damage.

There is a remedy tho. Download a tool called "SH3 tweaker" from Subsim. There, increase torpedo lethality a bit, so you can finish that merchant. Don't forget to turn that value back down afterward, or you will technically be cheating:P

Hope that helps, and it's not GWX fault

It never ceases to amaze me.
The amount of people who get something for free, then feel they can demand things instead of asking about it.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with danurve!!

GWX is an incredible accomplishment that was the result of thousands and thousands of man-hours: ......And yet it is offered for FREE!!!!

In spite of that, ....some people react to the occasional bug in a way that would make you think they paid for every one of those man-hours!

For those who insist on "Looking a Gift Horse in the Mouth", .....I suggest you go back and do a war career under plain, vanilla V1.4b: .......Then maybe you'll appreciate GWX for the fantastic gift it truly is!

Agreed, besides this is NOT a GWX 2.0 bug! It appears in stock 1.4 and NYGM as well, I know, I've had it happen to me in both. I'm actually surprised that anyone bothered to answer you after you made your demand in your post. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Seriously, you have no right to make such a demand. If all GWX players had that ungrateful, spoilt attitude, there would be no GWX. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

If you've experienced a problem that *you think* could be related to the GWX2 mod, at least have the courtesy to raise the issue in a civil, respectful manner.

The GWX team DON'T "need" to do anything for you.

I guess I'm lucky in that I've never experienced that bug, stock or modded.

i have never had a problem with this either. it took me a minute to get used to longer sinking times , but this mod is great in my book. I think i've totally forgotten how to play SH4.

Oh geez, and here I sat thinking that my popularity with the GWX2.0 team was abysmal...http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Well, I suppose it's time to get off this chair of shame and allow another to have a seat on it. SNAKE1937, she's all yours!

Aren't Norwegian lemmings a bit more snippy than Danish ones? And is that creamy peanut butter, or chunky? They really go for the creamy stuff......

We haven't forgotten the unfair flaming/stabbing you gave us during the Subsim donation week.

The shame you brought on yourself for the loud part you played in raising awareness of initially priveledged links, and your 'early' acquisition of GWX 2.0 remains yours to carry.

We were happy to give it freely. All you were asked to do was be patient for a few days... for something that took months to build, and over two years to refine.

However, out of respect for some good people here at this forum that have given our guys a break...

...I will try not to hold a grudge. I hope you enjoy the copy of GWX you acquired, and maybe spare an occasional kind thought for the good people you slapped.

Life is short. Go in peace TDH.

In reality (which this game tries to emulate), the standard boat had a very low freeboard, ie, it was low to the water and although the guns had provided straps for the gun crew, you also needed to get the shells to the guns.
In all but the calmest conditions, deck guns were useless as the boats also rocked quite savagely.
In short, unless you were in calm conditions, the deck gun could not be used safely, nor was it very accurate.
I consider the GWX team very generous indeed by allowing us the use of this gun in conditions that no U-boat crew would ever even consider using this weapon.
Time for us to be gratefull, as these guys have remodelled this game to an extent far beyond any other game. Whats more is, they did it for free, in their own spare time and asked for nothing in return.
This is not a 'Consol' game, it is not point & shoot.
I salute the GWX boys and their collective genius in bringing this game to such a high standard. and I politely ask any detractors if they have difficulties or find what they consider to be bugs, to bring it to attention - but not to level criticism at the GWX team.
You catch more flies with honey.
GWX-2, is in my opinion, an incredible mod, allowing us more theaters in which to operate, and a much higher level of realism than I have ever encountered, my sincere thanks

Hueywolf is quite correct about the technical difficulties of accurate gunnery from a submarine. You really need a "gun platform" the size of a U.S. Fleet boat before it becomes a real, practical possibility.

It's interesting to note that the Submarines that were designed as "gunboats" were typically huge. The Narwhal, for example, was 370 feet long, and displaced 2730 tons surfaced! ( .....Compare that to the average DD!) Another example of "specific engineering" is the ratio between her surface displacement of 2730 tons, and her submerged displacement of 3900 tons. This large disparity provided a substantial amount of freeboard when surfaced, giving the gun crew a better visual command of the situation, and seriously reducing the wave related problems that would tend to interfere with the operation of a gun on an open deck.

Without having these features designed into the boat, the deck gun is truly only an "afterthought and add-on"!

Sorry I missed this post til now.

I sent Snake1937 the DVD and have worked hard to
see that he got it.

He thanked me with a personal return of which
I am proud of.

No one else has thanked me as he has.
He may be a bit frustrated and I don't blame him.

Snake1937, You have my e-mail address.
Feel free to e-mail me anytime!
I will personnally address any frustrations
you encounter!!!
