Here is a guide to posting screenshots (Thanks to Messervy)

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/5261062382

Doug D kindly offers some good advice for those wishing to remove dials from their screencaps if they have left dials showing:

Process:
Step 1: Right click picture > select 'open with' > 'Paint'
Step 2: Select 'dotted rectangle' tool, place curser in one corner of desired picture, leaving out the dials e.g. top left, and drag to opposite corner (bottom right), let go.
Step 3: Select 'Edit' > 'copy to' and give new file name. (Note: defaults to .BMP file.)
Step 4: Repeat Step 1 on new file and select 'save as' and '.jpg' in 'Save as type' drop menu and save.

Now you have your great competition entry screenshot without the dials and we can all vote for you. Smile

Submissions

1. Submit your screencaps from 00:01 GMT on the 1st of month till 23:59 GMT on the 18th of each month.

2. Submit no more than 4 (FOUR) screencaps. It will be easier for voting purposes if you post all 4 in the same post.

3. We're going for the 'NO DIALS' option. Press 'del' on your number pad on your keyboard to remove the dials, take your screenshot then press it again to get them back.

4. Editing of Screencaps: The only 'manipulation' of screenshots allowed, in this thread at least, is to LIGHTEN very dark pictures. Photoshop, Irfan VIew etc may be used. This rule will be adhered to strictly.

http://www.irfanview.com/

5. All screencaps should be no larger than 800x600 pixels.

6. Entry to the competition is ‚£10 sterling payable to RealJambo*

Voting

1. Voting will begin on the 19th July at 00:01 BST and end on the 31st July at 23:59 BST.

2. Any FORUM MEMBER may vote, even if you haven't posted any screen shots yourself. One vote per member.

3. Voting will, due to forum limitations, be in a new thread on the SH3 forum that will link back to this one.

* = That was a joke, to make sure you actually read all this.

My original July entry got lost when the forum went down yesterday, so here I go again...

Many great shots so far this month. I especially like Goose's 'Wolf's Lair', Peter-E.-Cremer's first pic,

3.JG51_Molders's 'The Mighty Bismarck' looks like a shot from a Bismarck simulator! Superb colour, detail, angle and timing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

You may recall I asked you about the excellent camouflage skin your Type-IX has in your 'Wolf's Lair' pic - which mod is that?

Goose_Green
07-04-2006, 02:39 PM
Wolf's Lair was taken when playing IUB 1.03. Not sure what the camo pattern is or who did it. But it came from patch 1.1 of the IUB 1.03 mod. I downloaded it from here (http://mpgweb.de/IUB/)

Can I just say thanks to all those who have reposted after yesterdays aparent server breakdown.

How marvellous it is that we are left to work this all out for ourselves, without notification, explanation or apology from Ubi. Credit to you all for taking the time to repost. Dedicated - you certainly are.

I wouldn't expect anything different from everyone here on this fine forum http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Nice job everyone!!

It's a crying shame that Ubi do not seem to care about the constant disruptions and problems on this forum - with no apology for the problems or even the curtosy to explain why there have been problems. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

I expect to be kicked from Ubi for my dodgy comments above http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

Hey RJ, have you sorted out your new sig yet?

Realjambo
07-04-2006, 03:00 PM
Hi Goose.

I'm 'researching' a theme for my sig. Seems all the good themes, e.g. wolves, sharks, legendary Kaleuns, Vikings et al have been taken.

I don't think a Mouse or a Giraffe will have the same impact http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but I'm working on it. Work is at it's busiest time of year now, so free time is a precious thing. But! you'll soon see it I promise.

PS: If Ubi kick you for your comments I'm coming with you.

I pretty much said the same thing (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/4011005954/p/1), but Messervy put me right. For once, Ubi did post a message on the SH3 website homepage! I have to admit, I didn't think to look there, hence my rant!

I might speak for many of us here, in that our internet bookmarks for the forum are to the discussion page, not the SH3 Homepage, therby missing any announcement.

Not having a pop, but a clear posted message on the discussion forum from ubi wouldn't have gone amiss. Just a constructive comment.

Thanks any way, of course, to UBi for posting on the homepage. I feel suitably, er, sort of sorry.

This is a picture of my favourite beach in southeast Mallorca (a Spanish island, for those who don't know). I took the picture last year and it's exactly where I'll be again with m'lady next week, reading 'Das Boot'. There's even a drinks/food bar right next to the beach that serves one of my favourite Spanish traditions - weissbier and Bratwurst! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Oddly enough, I recently learned that HMS Eagle was sunk by U-71 just 70 miles due south of here, in 1942.

Well it was as much a surprise to me when it showed up as it probably was to a uboat crew!! He missed me on his first pass, thats why the light is pointing back at me. I didnt want to stay around to get a better shot on his next attack run!!

I had seen a screenshot of it before, cant remember where, but I presumed it was just some obscure mod.

The only mod im running is NYGM 2. Although it is made up of quite a few individual mods. Have a look at the readme file for it, it should say it in there.

Some great submissions so far, keep 'em coming!

Can I just remind people of a couple of points, which took a lot of negotiation, time and thought. Please remember the size limitations, and NO DIALS. IF you have inadvertently posted screenshots with dials, please refer to the rules on page one where you may can learn how to remove them. Rules is rules guys and we all have to abide by them.

Lastly, this is a screenshot competition, let's not stray from that. Posts of pictures that aren't directly from the game, frankly, suggest you've not bothered to read the rules. These can be easily posted up in your own thread in the General Discussion forum.

If you have a larger monitor (1280x1024) I can send you the original version so it'll look nicer on your desktop.

Right then, excellent shots this month - well done to everyone who posted their favorite screenshots the standard is still very high.

My vote goes to - Viking Grandad with his moody shot of a Corvette titled "Enemy warship passing overhead, Herr Kaleun"

I'd have to say Cpt. Thorne's "U-505 Surrenders after hours of depth charging."

The angle of the shot just gives me this perfect image of ravenous vultures intently circling around their latest victim.

My vote this month goes to 3.JG51 Molders for his Bismarck firing it's forward guns picture - To me it conveys some of the awesome power this Battleship had available.

Whoever wins this months, I'm pleased with this the submissions, people are clearly starting to think a 'bit out of the box' when choosing what to submit - excellent!

Naa, that would make it too big. I don't subscribe to the "see who can make the biggest sig that will be 100 times more prominent than the message I'm trying to get across" club.

I downloaded the Leigh Light mod from u-boot.realsimulation.com a while ago. It's very good! It also puts searchlights on armed merchant ships.

EDIT: here's the mod info:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Leigh Lights/Merchant Lights

mod by CCIP

*******
Includes: new .eqp files for 8 ships and 4 aircraft types.

*******
Features:

"Leigh Lights" for all large aircraft:
-Catalina
-Wellington
-Sunderland
-Liberator

(smaller aircraft could not carry such equipment, so they don't get anything )

Single spotlights for dry cargo ships:
-Coastal Merchant/Tramp Steamer
-Small Merchant
-C2/Medium Merchant
-C3/Large Merchant
-Liberty Cargo
-Victory Cargo

Spotlights for transport ships:
-Troop Ship (1 spotlight)
-Passenger Liner (2 spotlights)

(Tankers probably don't want to attract any more attention to themselves than they should, so they get nothing ) </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I think this month's entries are the best so far!

These are some that caught my eye:

- rodan54's 'Delivering the finishing blow against a C2'

- Bubblehead1948's sinking ship picture (please post a 800 x 600 pixel version!)

- blastomatic1759's first two pictures

- KaleunFreddie's first and last pictures (I normally only like 'realistic' screenshot subjects, but these two look great!)

And, as I mentioned before, Peter-E.-Cremer's first pic, 3.JG51_Molders's 'The Mighty Bismarck' and Goose's 'Wolf's Lair'

At the moment, I still can't decide which one to choose!! I'll give my vote soon...

****WE HAVE A W WINNER!****

Kaleuns, it was a close run thing for July, and good to see some new names in the submissions. Keep it up!

The winner, and I believe the 1st ever Kaleun to have won twice, is .......

GOOSE GREEN with his "WOLF'S LAIR" Screenshot.

I used Macromedia Fireworks, which has consistently given me the best compression and image quality for many years - way better than Photoshop's 'save for web' function. I highly recommend it!
