...and let me start off by saying that is was a really good movie. A little TOO good for video game/movie standards.

But I couldn't help but notice the immense similarities to AC. I know that both games were developed by Ubisoft and all and that AC probably adopted some things from it, but this was a Disney movie. I don't "think" it was done in collaboration with Ubi. I could be wrong though.

Anyway, getting back to the similarities. From scenes in which he is perched up ontop of building overlooking cities. The city of Alamut being featured as a main location.

http://i.tmi.tc/images/p/19347.jpg

There was even an order of Assassins/Hashashin(although they were evil)and a sanctuary in the mountains that they occupied and trained.

What really caught my imagination was the leaping from building to building throughout the movie. He even did a leap of faith!

http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/gallery/1205710/photo_16_hires.jpg

As it was happening all I could picture is Altair instead of Dastan. There were even moments where he leaped onto his enemies as if it was to assassinate them with a hidden blade. haha.
When he walked around the city he even wore a hood to go unoticed.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_LkXlx8pvWo0/SnlfvQTTplI/AAAAAAAAAGA/ohnaPc9aVG0/s400/Prince+of+Persia+SNeaky+Dastan.jpg

http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/gallery/1205710/photo_20_hires.jpg

So, if like me you aren't really a big follower/fan of the POP series but you want to see what it might "look like" if Altair was on the big screen, go watch this movie. It's a very good movie. I give it 8/10 stars.

And I leave you with this image...

I saw it last night! I loved it! And yes, they eve gave the hasassins the city like where they started! This is why Jerry Bruckheimer is awesome. He turned our expectations of a Disney movie thing for kids into a actually pretty good story, just like what he did with Pirates of the Carribean. Did you guys see they shooting kinfe mechanism on one of the assassins? Looks like an upgraded hidden blade to me...(which is awesome) oh and ya, they did collaborate with Ubi and the guy who made the PoP series, it was on some interview with the cast

They're more like darts or something.
Didn't know they worked together though. I searched online but found nothing on that. Nice to know though. I wonder if Disney want's to make an AC trilogy? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

oh my bad, thought there was a bayonet or something attached to it. Man, all these pics look epic lol, I would love if they made an AC movie trilogy. Just make sure Bruckheimer is on set with 'em. Who would play Altair? Or Ezio?

I was trying to find a picture of the scene where he is standing on the ledge looking out into the city as the camera pans around him but I couldn't find one. Very ACish. Just need the "eagle screetch" to finish it off nicely http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I loved that the Hassassin's were in the movie (I have named the main Hassassin my future husband http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif) but it bugs me a bit because this game is sent in Ancient Persia right? The Hashashin order hadn't been established yet...they weren't formed until the middle ages
but they were still badass, lol
Also, Alamut wasn't a really city, it was a fortress for the Hashashin (Alamut means "the eagle's lesson)

However, the movie was still awesome! I just saw it a few minutes ago http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

lol I saw this thread literally five minutes after I came home from it too. I loved it when they showed Alamut the first time, remember when Dastan climbs the wall using arrows shot into the wall? Pure epicness

Actually, 'Alamut' refers to the entire surrounding area of the castle, the territorial borders stretching for hundreds of miles. Tourists just use 'Alamut' to refer to the fortress.

I don't think so. Alamut(which is pictured up top) is the city that Dastan & his brothers infiltrated.
When Nizam visited the Assassins aka Hassansins in order to hire them to kill Dastan, it actually showed the "Sanctuary" beforhand with its location written towards the bottom of the screen but I missed it.
I was just wondering if it mentioned it being Masyaf?

I just think it's unfortunate that this move came out first. Now, when the Assassin's Creed movies (which WILL be released to critical acclaim) come out, laymen are gonna give it the whole "Your ripping of PoP!!!! SUE..."

Twas a good enough film though.

It's "Hassansin", and i'm sure they changed the name but were referring to the Hashshashin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashshashin).

They probably just didn't want to bother any historians with innacuracies from getting their panties up in a bunch.

The designation assassin, it has been suggested by some, simply means followers of Hassan (which refers to the group's Persian master Hassan-i Sabbah). The term Hashshashin is also widely suggested to have been derived from the plural of the Arabic word "Hashshash" (Arabic:?????) which means "hashish user"), although this remains a matter of dispute. -wikipedia.org

UchihaKarasu
06-03-2010, 10:49 AM
Hashashin also could have come from the the fact that some citizens believed that their actions were so bizarre and risky that it appeared as though "they were on hashish"
Though it did not imply that they actually smoked the stuff

I'd quite like to think they got wasted then went around doing their thing, mind you they might not do such a good job of sneaking around if they're all rolling about on the floor laughing at each other. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I wonder what would have been classed as munchy food back then?

More to the point, UchihaKarasu, how do you know it was just a stupid romour?

UchihaKarasu
06-03-2010, 01:22 PM
Because it was mostly Marco Polo who started it and he didn't visit the stronghold of the Assassins until after it was destroyed by the Mongols and claimed he had seen their practices (course he claimed many other things that he saw during his travels) like the whole Garden of Paradise which, according to current historians, never seemed to have existed.

Then again, my knowledge of the Hashashin isn't as buff as my Renaissance knowledge and I still have many books to read
I'm just saying what I learned from what info I have gathered

Though, if they all rolled around laughing, I don't think we would have AC today XD XD

Yes. Alot of similarities. Makes you wish they did AC instead of POP.
Maybe sometime in the future they could do a trilogy of full-lenth movies kind of like Lord of The Rings. Something long enough to cover all aspects of the AC story and not leave anything out.

Yeah, no kidding! lol
Also, the Persian Empire had fallen before the 6th century (when the movie took place)
The map at the beginning shows the extent of the Achaemenid Empire as it was before its conquest by Alexander (about 900 years before the film is set).
The inclusion of representatives from the Mughal Empire, which didn't exist until the 1500's
References are made to the Turks, who at this point were a loose confederation of nomadic peoples in central Asia, yet are described in terms more evocative of the Ottoman Empire.
Calling Male Ostriches female

I LOVED the movie. I played every single Prince of Persia game for PS2 and i thought they were the best video games ever lol. So i was skeptical of the movie at first because of the lack of gore and zombies. But... the movie was still frickin awesome because of the twists and turns in the storyline, the acrobats and awesome fight scenes. If you're a fan of the video games, or just awesome action movies you should go and see it.

The Hashansins/Hashashins were pretty cool and Assassin like. It's a shame they were so evil though. The entire environment of the movie totally suits AC1.

Now, Jerry, go and make a AC movie.
