Not sure when I downloaded it and not sure why either, but while looking through my SH3 Downloads directory last night I spotted a directory simply named EnvColors21.

So, being the curious type I had a quick peek inside and read the readme. Installation was straight forward and it boasted the following;

DESCRIPTION
-----------

This mod alters enviroment colors and light effects to be more realistic

1. Watercolors now assimilate to the weather and daytime.
visibility submerged will be relatively clear (still less clear then standard sh3 water) during a sunny day
while it will have a light olive-green tint. Towards evening it will be more dull and pretty dark,
its tint will become more brownish. At night the visibility submerged will drop to almost zero.
The surface will lose its blue color at storm and become dark gray, while the visibility submerged will
become very low and rusty.

2. Moonlight added. During a clear night the objects at the surface will become enlightened by the moon.
which makes them appear more clearly uppon the horizon when observed from the enlightened side.
(this has no effect on AI. The enemy wont notice your boat sooner when they see you from the enlightened side).
The direction of Light now matches the Moon in the sky.

3. Moonreflection effect added. The moonlight will now reflect uppon water surface

4. improved fog. Strong fog will now provide only 200 yards of visibility (instead of 400). At strong fog
you wont see much further then the nose of the boat. So a succsessfull attack will be impossible during a storm
or a strong fog. Light and Middle fog are not affected. Further the Fog will now cover entire scene and not just
the horizon.

So, I thought I would try it as I had always wanted the moon's reflection in the water and not just restricted to the binos and Uzo.

Well, the lighting truly looks amazing, and the water looks far better too, with that greenish hue to it remeniscent of the film Das Boot!

It's definitetly worth looking into, and if anyone is interested in downloading I have saved you the trouble in searching for it, you can download it from my page here (http://hosted.filefront.com/GooseGreen)

REMEMBER TO READ THE README FIRST AND ENSURE YOU BACK UP THE NECESSARY FILES BEFORE OVERWRITING ANY FILES!

Don't you worry, I will post some screenshots here later today.....I need to get into my patrol a bit to get some shots first all I have is night time ones without any moon - and they are fairly dark.

@Alex - As i said I can't remember where I got it from, so I have uploaded it onto FileFront for you guys if you are interested though!

I tried this mod last week. The aesthetic changes are good, but at this stage in its development there is a problem with the moon appearing with a big square shape around it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I don't know if everyone gets this problem, but quite a few people on the subsim forum have experienced the same problem.

When this is fixed, it will be a great mod. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the info VG http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Here's one for starters; note the greenish hue of the water - looks far better I think!

I run SH3 at the default 1024x768.

I hope they fix the problem. As Goose's screenshot shows, the colour of the lighting is a great improvement (inspired by Das Boot perhaps).

It sounds good. Is it compatable with GW?

Goose_Green

Yes, I have it working with GW, but please note the comments above, there are some minor problems with it.

Dose this mean no probs? I don't see the "template" around the moon. Looks great by the way!

Goose_Green

erm...yes, it does look nice, but I noticed the template later on when the moon began to rise higher in the night sky, the template was noticed as there were clouds higher up in the sky.

I was hoping the problem lay in the higher screen resolutions - obviously not as I am running in the standard 1024x768 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

What did you do wrong Goose? How did you fix it?

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
EDIT - just noticed your subsequent post... so it didn't work after all... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I didn't copy all the files over, that's what I missed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

It's a real shame about the template becuase the mod is fantastic, I love the greenish water and I think the whole lighting is far better at night.

Maybe the chap who did it might refine the mod a bit more.

Here are two more shots taken with this mod, this time it's heavy fog and 15m/s winds; looks even better, visibility is a max of 200m - zero time to do any attacks in this kind of weather!!
