I've never found a way to set a crosswind in IL2. But here are some results using Lock On and FS9:

I want to try landing a Fw-190 in a 40 mph howler.

Personally my dream sim will be realized when I can buck my way down a short final approach in my Gustav, fighting wind gusts and mid-day thermic heating on a desert map - getting a nice hard thump flying over an exposed rock face just as in real life. Tubulence ,wind, mechanical and thermic instability - just as much a part of flying in WWII as shooting and bombing. Pass behind a box of bombers and it should be a nightmare of tip vortexes and prop wash http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

wife has a terrific case of "the winds" tonight. Thinking of putting her out on the porch. Wouldn't want to scare off the woodland creatures though.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I bealive that i had some problems when i set thunderstorm weather on smolensk map in QMB. I had some trouble landing my tempest on road. I was always drifting to the left http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It was quite fun.

I am sure I have played a mission in which I had to land on a carrier like shown in the posted movie... Very heavy crosswinds indeed...

I have no idea if it was a QMB mission or from a campain though...

Wind direction is set per map and can not be edited. Wind force depends on weather setting and time of day.

Select South Japan map which has wind north or south (can't remember without testing) select an airbase with runway East-West, weather storm and time of day 7-8AM.

Wind is OK. It's the wretched bands of turbulence which completely muck up any attempt to shoot ground targets which I hate!

Wow! I didn't know that. I had started a thread ( http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/322...221038445#3221038445 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/3221038445?r=3221038445#3221038445) ) about taking off in a nasty, variable (0-30km with heading changes over about 3-5 seconds) criss-cross wind in horrendous weather. I thought the mission builder put that in, but you are saying he just made the weather bad to get that effect.

Cool http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It's a pitty the wind can't be set in the editor (perhaps in future versions). Never quite sure if I am actually setting up the carrier into wind in poor weather conditions. Will need to look at this a bit more closely.

My understanding is that wind always comes from the north.

Up to 30km/h depending on the weather setting. Not much wind at all.

The exception being the Sands of Time map. When you are near the coastline, there always seems to be a strong wind from the North.

The He 111 spins like a weather vane on the runway; it's pointing due South before I can even get the engines started.

Trying to strafe ground targets is nearly pointless. Usually, I try to only fire in short bursts, when I'm fairly certain I'll hit something. However, in this weather, by the time you get lead in the air, your plane has bounced off target. About all you can do is keep shooting and watch your bullets spray all over the place.
