Hello, The official Xbox 360 controller should work in both Single & Multiplayer. I actually primarily use the Xbox 360 controller myself, so I would imagine the issue you are encountering with the afterglow controller may indeed be due to the drivers in use.

I had that problem with Saitek Cyborg 360 pad in AC1 & AC2. But it seems that in AC:B it was fixed. In AC1&2 i was putting x360ce.ini and ximput1_3.dll files in main folder to fix triggers. Google for acii_wireless_360_fix_by_khemitude (contains those files), might help.

I run the redcl0ud XBCD driver and it has a profile where you can set "Triggers as Buttons" which work perfectly in all the AC games on my machine (running Vista x64).

Just in case you need it. I have a MadCatz XBOX360 wired controller.

Yeah it can be kind of a pain if you don't really know what you're doing in Windows with drivers, etc. but it does work. If you're running Vista or Win7 you'll have to put the OS into "test mode" for the XBCD drivers to load properly (because they're not licensed by Microsoft).
