Just wondering who else out there is running a 6800GT with a P4 3.4E or similar... Just wanted to know how big of an FPS impact perfect settings have on your systems as opposed to the next lowest landscape setting... Also what settings do you run your vid card at in the nvidia display settings?
I usually use 4x/4x... looks... well, perfect. Seems to cause some FPS studders here and there tho.

I've got a P4 3ghz, 1 gig of DDR ram, a 6800 OC with 128 meg and I was running the game on perfect settings. It ran like glass until I started screwing around with the water settings. In the config file I set the water to 3 and it slowed down insanely.

I then went to 2 and now it runs well.

Card settings are all application controlled.

Have the BFG 6800GT OC, 1 GB RDRAM, but only a P4 3.06 HT CPU

I run the game (when not hosting) on Perfect using 2xQ AA and game default Ansio. Prefer this setting for better fps (TrackIR), which are usually around 50-60+ most situations.

P.S. That's using Water=1 and Trees=2

Try turning off shadows and see how big a difference it makes. Water is one hog, shadows are another, at least on my card.

Water=3 is a huge frame hog. I have a GeForce 6800 Ultra overclocked and a P4 3.4EE and it slows it way down to use Water=3. I actually use Water=0 and run at 1600x1200x32 4XAA, 4XAF.

Right now I'm running an Athlon 64 overclocked to 2.5 Ghz, before that I was running an P4 2.4 overclocked to 3.4. My 6800GT (overclocked to 405/1100) settings are 1280x960, 4xAA, 8xAF, perfect settings, water=1 (I think it looks better than 2),forest=1, Nolensflare=1. Black Death average FPS is around 42 at these settings. Average gameplay FPS is about 55-75 FPS. Jungle trees and multi-ship flakburts still kill my FPS though.
