Finally, a little competition for a change:

Hopefully this game will provide some healthy competition for AEP/PF, especially for offline players.

The old arcade 1942 was more realistic than CFS3.

Interesting observation. I can't help wondering what it's got to do with this title, which was developed from the original Rowans Battle of Britain.

Microshaft has had nothing whatsoever to do with its development; if the original, but admittedly very buggy title was anything to go by, this could be very good indeed.

According to a gamespot news release at http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/11/05/pressrelease_6112498.html
this is an updated re-release of the original Battle of Britain by Rowan (also developers of Flying Corp and MiG Alley). It looks like the graphics were upgraded for sure, remains to be seen what has been done regarding FM/DM. The original Rowan's BoB had some very good aspects, even some 1C would do well to incorporate (i.e., tactical use of clouds to shake an AI pursuer).

Shockwave Productions has acquired source code for several landmark sims, like B-17 II The Mighty Eighth, whose marketability was severely impacted when Hasbro bought out Microprose and decided to rush to completion without multiplayer support. It was reported "in November, 2004, Shockwave Productions Inc. made an announcement that they had obtained a 5 year contract through Atari and have obtained the source code to "B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty Eighth". The project is being called "B-17 Flying Fortress: The Legend Returns", which will include improvements and expansion to the existing code, as well as activating the multiplayer functions to fly in real-time with your friends.", however, I've seen no recent news on this. Too bad, gameplay was very good, multiplayer was sorely needed along with updated graphics.

Screenies were decent.

I liked the Vonage ad better with the guy and his rocket. Hilarious.

1942: The Pacific Airwar was a great sim in its day and even today the most well rounded approach to the Pacific Theatre. If only Pacific Fighters had taken a leaf out of that book..

A playable demo of BoB II would be nice. I have the original and the BDG updates so I'd like to see how things compare to that before I'd even consider parting with any cash.

I think Oleg is still in the lead and will be there for a while yet. I've seen screenies for other sims and thought I'd give them a try. Everyone of them has disappointed me. I compare everything to the IL-2 series since it was my first sim. The only thing that has ever disappointed me about the IL-2 series is was PF. Somehow I never liked it and never had any interest.

One thing I have learnt from sims is that although the screenies look great, the game usually isn't. I have a feeling when Oleg's BoB is released I won't even keep the IL-2 series on my harddrive. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
