Hi, Would someone be able to give me some help with flying the seafire? I am using CEM and cannot seem to keep up with any of my virtual wingmen. I have tried playing with the prop pitch but although I have seen some improvement I still seem to be slower, menaing that
a) I get left behind and then told off for not staying with the leader
b) Any plane that I am trying to chase also gets away from me, meaning that someone else poaches my kill.

Yes it is, again that speeds things up but not enough.

this may sound dumb, but it sounds like you might be flying dirty, in other words, check your flaps, gear, tailhook and canopy, I'm comeing from the real world, vs a sim. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Best to make a shallower climb than them to keep your speed up. Then when they finally go into cruise you can ease your way up to their alt.

Ok, will try that.
While I am here do anyone have recommended CEM settings for climb, cruise, combat etc for the said seafire? I have read lots about listening for the engine note but without a baseline of what to listen for it seems to be a bit like reliving yourself in the wind..

Like someone already said the AI cheats!If you fly the like of an I16 or Hurri Mk1 with AI 'team mates' you will see them dive nose down from level flight which of course you cant do due to Carburettor causing fuel starvation.Also the AI dont even black outin sharp turns so you are fighting a loosing battle.Best to get online and kill fellow humans who dont have these cheats!(Sounds as if youre ready with existing knowledge)

Hmmm...

I`ve always seen AI I16s turn over before diving. When they have dived it`s usually by a degree that doesn`t conk out the engine. I know this since I can dive too with them.

Maybe it`s changed, but I doubt it.

Still AI does cheat in other regards, but then, it must.

The situation is quite frankly ludicrous.

Has Oleg never heard of CRUISE SPEED?
Maybe he should read a pilots manual - any one will do.

Nobody flys at top speed all the way from take off to landing, Which is what these squadron do.
Nopethey take off, reduce speed to keep the engine cool and working fine and proceed at CRUISE SPEED (there is, that phrase again - look it up in a flight manual...).

An inexperienced or inefficient player should be able to catch up to the squadron with ease. Using higher power settings than the rest of the squadron maybe, but you should certainly not get left way behind when you are going flat out but are not as well trimmed as the squadron.

Why such pathetic AI behaviour is still in the game at this stage is perplexing. Do the Devs not actually play campaigns?

Stuntie makes a fair point.With the exception of very long (60mins ++)missions people can and will fly everywhere at 100 % or more.Fuel is unlikely to be an issue nor overheating although they vary a lot from plane to plane.The way overheating is modelled seems a bit restrictive too.You can run the heck out of an engine at 110% plus WEP and then cool it briefly and repeat this over and over .Yet running at 101% for a second too long might blow another engine....I wonder will BOB be the same.Maybe overheat should be introduced earlier at say 75-80%.Then again Im sure the cooling effect of a vertical dive from high alt has to be enormous....Interesting topic....

SL to 10,000': 170 mph IAS
10 to 16,000': 160 mph IAS
16 to 21,000': 150 mph IAS
21 to 26,000': 140 mph IAS
26 to 31,000': 130 mph IAS
31 to 37,000': 120 mph IAS
Above 37,000': 115 mph IAS

Take off:
Radiator open on ground. Rudder trim Full Right, Elevator 1 Div. Nose down, cowl open. 20' flaps for Seafire
3000 +9 (90%) or +12 to 1,000' or 5 min

Climb and Combat:
2850 (90%) +9 (90%) 1 hr
Best climb: 170 mph IAS initial. (See above)

Evasive Spiral: 120 mph 2650 (75%) +7 (75%)

Cruise: 2650 (75%) +7 (75%) (+4 at altitude)

Maximum Cruise: Full power up to +4 : rpm 1800 (20%)

Emergency War Power: 3000 +16 (+18) 5 min

Max oil temp: 96 (90 is normal. Open Cowl for prolonged combat)

Landing: max. 140 mph IAS
Gear and Flaps down, Prop. Pitch 100%

Final Approach: 85 mph IAS

Max Dive: 450 mph IAS below 20,000' Prop 0%
Best speed Above 10,000'

Restart the Campaign and pick the highest rank possible.

The campaign will be the same, but you will elad the flight and they will all follow you.

Offline is OK for practice, but Online is where the real beauty of this sim is.

Get online as soon as possible to play this game in its best form, its incredible.

Its the only game I have been playing for 2 years none stop.

As I recall, it was common practice for VVS fighter pilots to fly the whole mission at top speed. It increased their survival chances, but was rough on the engines.

Not a stupid suggestion but I am under the impression that the seafire does the mixture automatically. It also doesn't a supercharger. This is from waht I have read and experimented with, but I may be wrong, if someone would like to correct me?

I don't have any experience yet with this game, but I know from other games that setting the mixture manually will increase your speed (if you do it right...) and that the super charger will kick in at higher altitudes. I think it's somewhere around 17,000 ft for most spitfires...

The Seafire, like all other Spits in game, has auto mixture and auto blower gear-change.

No, all the Merlins had automatic mixture control.

The blower change is manual on the Hurricane, otherwise the other Merlin a/c have auto change. It's historical.
