~S~ All!!!

First, let me start off by asking that my thread not be hijacked (wishful thinking, i'm sure). If something has changed in the dm, then so be it.... I just want to figure out how to be successful in my plane of choice.

I'm all of a sudden having some real problems in my P47. Everytime I go up, be it on a df server or coop, I'm losing either ailerons, rudder, or elevators.... sometimes all at once. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I don't remember having this problem before. The other night, someone in a p51 hit me with a small burst in a passing shot, and I lost my ailerons and rudder. What am I doing wrong? What are you guys doing to protect your control surfaces? I'm starting to get pretty frusterated. I'm starting to think my beloved jug has a glass jaw. I can't help but think I'm flying it all wrong, and could really use some advice.

Help!!!

Rudder seems to me the one to go all the time. I think it might be somthing about being hit by 6 .50's, not somthing the jug would usually be hit by, its like the Il2, it takes dozens of 20mm to bring it down but only a short squirt from the .50's to remove its wings. Weird.

There is no real way to protect your controls apart from not getting hit. It does seem to be its weakness. I try to fly with the rule of getting as high as possible and as fast as possible so when I do need to extend or leave I've got 20,000ft beneath me to take advantage of.

Don't go up to escape. Nothing can hang with a Jug in a dive if you have enough altitude. Don't go vertical downward either. it has to be a shallow or medium dive angle. Extend then turn around and attack again. The Jug jsut won't zoom climb in game fast enough to escape a smaller lighter fighter with better acceleration.

Perhaps I'm just growing a bit impatient and pressing my attacks when I shouldn't. I just don't remember having these sort of issues in 2.04.

Thanks for your input guys!

Been flying the JUG 95% of the time since 1.0 and I can tell you its not a change in the DM it has always lost its controls easily. Even from small mg rounds. This goes for the motor as well although not as bad as before. But having said that there are times when the JUG holds up to fire as it should (some would argue too much at times Im sure) but its not common. How does one avoid this? Dont put yourself in position to be hit http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

~S~ HaVoK!!!

Thanks for your reply! You're right, staying out of the position to be hit is the key. I brought up the dm simply because I have several missions that we used to get through without a problem. Now they are next to impossible, and loss of controls is happening nearly every time. I guess that keeps thing interesting!

Was this a common problem on the Jug in real life?

Don't know about the controls but I do know the engine was remarkably tough and could have multiple cylinders knocked out and still keep running. Then again my mates Reliant Fox's no.4 cylinder in its 33 Hp engine hasn't worked for years and that keeps going.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
