Hi all.

What is the difference between a AI plane and a flyable plane?
The cockpit?
If yes, why can't a third party programmer get to make those cockpits?
Would be great, if all planes were to be flyable - the 4 engined bombers aswell!
And what happened to the long awaited dutch fokker???

Third parties have made a number of cockpits in the game. J8A, P-47, Me-261 to name some. I believe He-111 and Ju-88 were done by 3rd party.

Maddox games tends to take any models from 3rd party that are well done. Not so much anymore, as they are working on BoB.

In addition to the cockpit, the flight models are also drastically different in AI planes. AI FMs are very simple, and don't attempt to replicate proper handling characteristics. For example, I played the I-153 before it was a flyable plane, and it was almost uncontrolable by a human player, spinning lots, and unable to recover. It changed a lot when it became flyable.

Also, the cockpit is not a simple thing. It takes much longer to make a cockpit than an external plane. It also takes a lot of work to put the model into the game once it's done, with all the instrument workings and whatnot.

If someone was working on a Fokker at some point, they probably abandoned the project. This happened with a lot of planes.

Hmmm, what a shame. Would have been great, if this sim could have been the ultimate WWII flight sim (wich it is already, but even better) with most or all planes flyable.
I haven't got the slightest idea what it takes to make things work in here (the game), but once the game is fully developed (the last maddox add on) will other persons (third party) have the possibility to take over development and further programming???
For free that is???
Would hate to see this game vanish and be forgotten, like most other nice sim-games...
All in all, thx for a fantastic game!

It's my understanding that the AI planes also have a simplified FM, and that enough data is needed to make them flyable on that level, not just the cockpit. So they can be just AI because they have no cockpit modeled, OR because there isn't enough data to make the FM.

Obviously '46 means they could have climbed down from that high horse a while ago, since many '46 planes are pure fantasy, with no real data about their real FMs at all existing.

I think the sim will just get better with SoW. There's nothing really being lost there.

Lots of flyables is nice, but all the flyables in the world won't improve the core features, like FM, DM, weather, etc. That's what made IL-2 great, not the lengthy plane list.

I think those with talent to make planes and cockpits would rather work on the new engine, anyway.
