Your Boat thats seen you through half a Dozen patrols cops it near the Azores. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif
No Survivors!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
That Crew you built up over many Years and Months all gone.

So what are you gonna do?
Start a New Campaign?
Or Press ESCAPE and Load Last Save and say to yourself "Think i'll try something else this time" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

At least you get a 2nd Chance unlike the real deal and thats something i'll take to heart when it does happen.
So i think i'll take that 2nd chance and change my thinking.

So Cold. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
You've managed to pick this crew over several Patrols and awarded them medals and managed to keep hold of them despite losing others.
These were your Boys and they looked to the Old Man to keep em alive not to mention your own highly decorated self!!

Gotta restart from that last point and work out what i did wrong and take that 2nd chance.

I'll be doing exactly what Osakajoe is planning on doing. Other people have been saying "derr, I'm gonna restart the WHOLE campaign if I die, just to be realistic." Yeah, go ahead and waste up to 40 hours of gameplay just because you want to live in the illusion that SHIII _is_ the real thing.

It's almost an insult to the game.... I think it'll be immersive enough on its own, without needing extensive adaptation by its players. But hey, to each their own. God be with you!

Using the save game feature feels cheap. I would if i died restart a new campaign but instead i would choose the closest start time to that of when i sank to in a sense resume the campaign but in a more realistic fashion. The save game feature will only cheapen the times when i "just make it out by the skin of my teeth" because i know there was no security blanket.

Come on! Everyone will do whatever feels right. There will be people wanting to recover the crew, and people willing to begin a new campaing in the period.

And some people may do both things randomly, so there is no point about discussing that.

Is a game, so let's have fun the way we prefeer and be polite with the people who decides that is funnier for them in another way.

But let's ban cheaters while playing online! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've played several campaigns in AoD with the "dead is dead"-rule.

I intend to do the same in SH3. It makes you act a lot more cautious instead of just reloading the last saved game...

Completing a campaign and surviving the war without getting killed in AoD offered a tremendous feeling of accomplishment to me, second only to finnishing epic games like Baldur's Gate 2.

I only managed to survive two AoD campaigns. One I ended in a Type XXI when I recieved D├┬Ânitz's orders to cease hostilities, in the other I accepted a staff position in late '44.

But of course everyone should play the game as he enjoys it. If someone wants to play SH3 on easiest settings as a naval shooter blowing up stuff than this is perfectly fine with me.

If I lose my sub...I lose my sub, the whole shebang! I also lose my mind a bit at that point too.
Have been known to shout "Oh Bol**ks" quite audibly too. !!!!!!
I hate losing a sub in Silent Hunter but I NEVER save and re-use it. Once its gone its gone for good RIP ( Rust In Peaces )

My first two or so campaigns i will definately use the loading feature, cause im a sub noob.

but i'll see how things go by then and maybe I'll give the death = start anew rule a try then too and see if i can (in a few years http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif ) manage to live till '45

I didn't know that R.I.P. works in english too, as in italian (riposi in pace) and latin (requiescat in pacem), but yes, is the only thing to say for lost subs.

But I don't blame resurrection players, we play just for fun.

There's now way I'd restart a Campain if my sub was sunk. I was chosen by high ranking personell in the kriegsmarine to test out a new experimental device on my sub. When I'm in a good position in my patrol, I hit a button on this device that sends out a tachyon field in that exact location and time. Later if I am in serious peril, I hit another button on the devise and it finds that tachyon field and my sub is returned to that time and location. If all goes well, the entire kreigsmarine will be equipt with these devises and we will truely rule the sea and the allied forces will have no chance of victory at all.

There, hows that for immersive and staying in campain. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

"Jesus players" sounds nice but, to avoid misunderstandings, I'd suggest something as "Lazarus Captains", or "Zombie Oberleutnants"

Well obviously i'll use the load/save feature sinds i'm not letting my pc run 10000000 hours withoud putting it off. :P My parents wouldn't be glad with the high bills.

I never played any subsims or whatsoever.. that is if you exclude Dasboot of 1990 (?). So it will pritty hard to know if i'm destoyed what i did wrong.
So i think i wont use the save feature for that, altough relive your killed submarine, could give information what the appropriate way was in that situation.

Well I'm for realism too so if my sub is sunk I'm going to drown myself in the bath tub.

ah, back in the day as a youngster, I would restart my AOD game from the last save......but know I cant do that....I have to have that level of immersion that makes the Sim worth playing knowing that if I die, all will be lost for good....that is why aircraft will never see me on the surface for very long or escorts spoting me after a convoy attack......anyway, it will be an adjustment (maybe a few deaths) before I truely am a more cautious Skipper.

I haven't decided how I'm going to play yet.

I want to wait to see if I even like the game before I start making decisions on how I'm going to play it for the next few years.

The way I play I will be lucky to ever get a command past a Type II, constantly dragged back to September 1939.

In IL2 I only ever fly one plane 95% of the time (BF109) and have never continued a campaign after a death.

I may have to grow very fond of my little Type II Duck.

You'd better believe it!

Heck, I don't even know what 'load last save' means.

Actually, the only time I reload a lost game is if it was lost due to a crash-to-desktop or if my baby daughter starts pressing keys and I can't stop her before she's got my character killed.

Firedragon1717

No your daughter adds to the realism, it simulates crew memebers snapping under the combat pressure and doing random hysterical things. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
