my rewriting of the original VVS fighter cmpn released with the intitial il2 sim is nearly done, at least the first part of it, which is the smolensk, moscow, and stalingrad mini cmpns as flown by the same pilot.

i redid everything, using the same historical background info and time line. been working on this for nearly 5 mos. ive redone alot of my work as i learned the misn blder better.

Ive assigned more historically appropriate aircraft; the I-16 and 2 versions of the lagg3. ive also redone the briefings more along the lines of a regimental commander giving briefings, with much extra info and attempted to make it much clearer.

ive used alot of historical info, and i added alot of epic, fairly large scale battles on the ground, often affected by your actions (like killing stukas before they take out your artillery). i put several cameras in appropriate positions and let you know they are there and what is going on at each location, and how it links together. I also used more appropriate german ac, like 109Es instead of Fs for the first few months, like soviet veterans have said.

an intrepid sim pilot is currently testing this stuff, adn im gonna try to finish it up this week. its gotta be tested completely though, and its for the combined install, mostly 3.04. but i may put some new stuff in it from 4.01 before im done.

the first screen shot is of a later misn in the smolensk cmpn, where the germans have overun smolensk and panzers are on teh perimeter of the field, artillery is falling all around, and the base is under attack by 109s and 110s. you gotta get int the air in a hurry....

im going to release it in at least 2 parts, as its over 70 misns all told. the first one will be about 21 misns.

you gotta claw for altitude and manually crank up the gear, hoping now jerries jump you, but they are all over the place.

the attacking planes are low level city, and teh AA is all over the place but is limited in its effect. its up to you and your comrades to hold them off while the airbase is being evacuated towards a nearby village. you also have to help keep them off the Li-2s that are carrying all the maintenance personel.

you have to stay close to the field and not go careening off on goos chases...your comrades are counting on you and you 2 wingmen, as teh VVS is flying 3 plane elements and hasnt adopted the luftwaffe 4 plane flt yet.

german armor and vehicles are breaking thru the perimeter of light soviet armor and too little artillery, driving thru the carcasses of soviet vehicles.http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/mk4advancespastdestroyedveh.jpg

you gotta buy time for the convoys and transport planes that are trying to get away in a frenzy.http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/airbaseevac.jpg

but dont panic, as you have some help that is surprisingly effective, if you keep the luftwaffe off them until they can get into the air. you are thier leader you know. you can cordinate with the ai as they are pretty efficient at finding the most threatening bandits first.http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/i-153help.jpg

Ok guys, im gonna put a high priority in getting the last 3 misns done in the stalingrad mini-cmpn this week.gotta make sure ive modified the cmpn file correctly, which can be a bit odd at times, and im playing it in cmpn mode, adding misns as i go.

the misn above is the concluding one in the smolensk chapter, and is my favorite so far...ive flown it about a million times, and its never the same. ive been killed on the runway, and ive scored 6 kills against skilled german fighters....definitely one to record because of all the stuff going on.

i learned the hard way in my cfs2 cactus cmpn that you cant test enough or have too much help doing it, since there is ALWAYS something you forget to do.....even Bird Brain does that sometimes, and he is the master as far as im concerned. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

anyway, heres some more screenies. many of the smolensk misns involve desperate holding actions where troops and aircrew sacrifice themselves almost suicidally. here the Soviets try to delay the germans by attacking a bridgehead and holding at a crossroads.they are just too outgunned and outequipped, as heavy german armour approaches.

machine guns and 45mm guns arent much of a defense against german technology, but they make heroic stand after stand.

The luftwaffe works as an efficient team, sweeping the sky of desperate soviet resistance.

sometimes you must fly escort for outdated slow dinasoars like the TB3 in misns like this one agianst an enemy bridgehead where vehicles have created a target rich environment.

while the TB3s are assigned the bridge itself, SB2s attack the vehicles gathering at the bridgehead, if they can make it through the marauding 109s and 110s. there is no escort availible for them, and you have to endure thier pleas for help while you protect the even more vulnerable TB3s.

Nice idea for a project, enforcer ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I hope you eventually will be interested in doing the other original IL2 campaigns too. The German fighter one sorely need updating too.

If I remember you go from an F-2 in '41 to a G-6 AS in 1945. It would be nice to see you go from E-series in '41 to K-series in 1945.

yeah , i plane on rewriting the german 109 cmpn to , but using a more varied and appropriate set of planes, including FWs. thats gonna be a while though, as this VVS project has another part, probably 2.

Im gonna definitely post it at airwarfare, maybe netwings to, since they still have my old cfs2 project on there.

making progress, heres a few from the moscow minicmpn adn stalingrad. at moscow, you are better equipped (if flying the "varnished coffin" can be better), and have alot more help, but its still a desperate outmatched fight.

you have to intercept some of the many bomber raids against moscow from your forward position.Dont forget the escorts though, because when your entire flight runs outa ammo, you have to deal with those pesky escorts.AS usual, it seems to wind up on the deck, as it did on the eastern front.

once you exhaust your rounds, you justhave to run for home and hope the AA at the base can deal with them as you fly back and forth thruough that fire, and it does no good to call your fight for help, as htey are outta ordinance to, and thats what it means when they dont answer your screams for help......i wont give away how that turns out.

suffice to say though, that camo is pretty effective.....http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/camoworks.jpg

later in stalingrad, the germans are desperately trying to re-supply the 6th army, and your job is often to cut that artery. the luftwaffe is operating out of a couple of well equipped bases they captured from the soviets, and two of them are the center of the resupply effort, and get the full attention of the VVS.

i discovered that you can place static planes in the hangars, and that they adn some aircraft shelters are amazingly detailed. get a load of the size of this hangar, as bombers loaded with supplies must be serviced inside if possible.

ENFORCER very impressive! It's a good idea too to rework the older campaigns and add new things to them. EXCELLENT WORK!

thanks youse guys.....one more misn to go, then its the testing stage. ill try not to keep you waiting any longer than needed. ive worked on this for over 4 mos pretty steadily when real world cr#p isnt in the way. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

anyway, at stalingrad, you get a couple of misns going after transport trains wth the La-3 IT....with its 37mm and squirrely handling. its pretty effective on the big ones, as long as you avoid the 109s.

Enforcer572005

and since those ITs tend to shake themselves apart when firing, you need to taxi into a hangar to get some badly needed maintenance...http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/ckpitinsidehangar.jpg

ok, i completed the last stalingrad misn tonight, so now i gotta redo the cmpn file, and get it tested in cmpn mode, also my test pilot is still flying it. maybe 10 days or so untill i send it to airwarfare and netwings. but dont hold me to that. depends on the chaos factor, but im staying up pretty late these days working on this. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Sounds really great there! I look forward to it.

Just one point of concern. Last time someone said that they had done large detailed ground battles...I played the first mission and never played again. It was totally unplayable on my computer...

Try and balance your detailed ground battles with performance.

I look forward to the results and months of work!

BUMP!

This is definitely a great idea mate, as most of the old IL-2 Campaigns really have become "Forgotten Battles" in this sim, lol excuse the bad pun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nice screenies as well http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

check your email achilles...your suggestions have helped alot, even on the ones that you couldnt fly (you gotta get some more ram comrade) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. im in the tweaking/testing mode now. still gotta alot of work on that level. gotta clean up alot of the stuff from the original 1c programmers thats not compatible or causes issues wiht the extensive mods ive made.
