View Full Version : My Impression Of AEP (for those poor souls without it)

Well, I must say that I am glad that Ubi Soft is going to be paying my divorce lawyers. After all, this really is their responsibility, right? Ok, so I'm just kidding.

I am going to say it, . . . here it comes . . .
AEP IS A BRAND NEW GAME! (er, . . . sorry there, I got excited http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif ) Seriously, every bit as much as Forgotten Battles was a new game, and not just an expansion on IL2 Sturmovik; AEP is just not the same game that we have been playing for over a year now. . . at all! There is a deeper immersion than was there before. Yes, that's great, especially online, but what about all the off-line whines that we are hearing? Well, offline can be as fun as you make it. I think that I have played more offline than online, but both are equally enjoyable.

The new maps, and the appearance of the terrain is different. The feel is different. The new planes are obviously different, but your old favorite, whatever it is, has taken on a new luster. So AEP is definitely a new game, in that sense.

In the technical sense, it is a new game. When you install AEP, it will completely overwrite all of those beautifully encrypted files, that we want noone to crack. The heart of the game will be overwritten into the new game that it is. FB will still be there, but only in an improved state. That, imo, is why Oleg said it will install over any previous version of FB.

It seems that there was a mistake about some read only files that is being corrected, but I installed right over 2.2, and have had no problems.

With all that said, (I know, I know . . . opinions are like, er . . . you know), I do not feel that I bought an expansion pack. This is more like a completely new simulation.

Thanks for your impressions. I'm expecting my copy to be delivered this week, so I'm learning all about AEP through reading the various posts. Glad about the new offline features, as I'm one of those mostly offline flyers. I'm waiting to use the new aircraft even in the old VVS or Luftwaffe campaigns, not to mention the new campaigns.

Yes, and to prove how easy it is to install, nicely over my 1.22 and I didn't lose my skins or maps or change any of my settings, and everyone knows what a complete user I am. Still, I'd back up any maps or skins just in case and then it's simple, next, next, next thing. The game has more eye candy, just all around looks better and gives me more frames per second at the same time. If that's not elfin friggin' magic I don't know what is!

I know I have mine, but I feel it too in a way. Doesn't feel right chasing about a Spit with no Brit at the controls, or a FW being piloted by a guy from New Jersey.

I'm at a loss for this expansion. I live in the US and I was told March 3rd so I pre-paid for it. Then I was told March 4th, then march 8th, then March 9th, now I'm told there is no release date so I told the retailer thanks but no thanks and got my money back... When I will fly it? *Shrug* When will I pre-pay aqain? Never....

Hi Saurn

I prepaid though UBISOFT, it was released last thursday, I got mine today (teach me, went with 2 day air, overnight and I get it friday)

it looks and flies sweet so far, feels a little smoother

liking the Polish Campaign, got 2 109 K's first mission, hammered 4 190's the 2nd, but no Joy http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

OH Yea
the CR-42 is a joy, the G-50 is sweet but underpowered for the way the AI flys

the Frank Ic is a monster (flew a 4 on 2 mission, my wing was a Zero) and had to fly 50% power most of the fight, to not over shoot everything

so far, I think it is a great add on

Your concern is appreciated, Tsisqua...

Indeed, it is sacrilege that those Spits are being flown around by cocky Yanks! And before the Brits too! It`s just not cricket! Bad show, etc, etc... AArrrggghhhh!!

Er... sorry... I`ll go now....

Not the model in your drawing Seafire. I wish they had included a Spit I in the AEP but we only get Vs and IXs I believe. I have the AEP but haven't loaded it yet. I'm actually waiting (can you believe it) for VEF and everybody who flies in it to change over. I can wait.

SeaFire,

You are a very good sport, Mate. I'd fly with you anyday!

They made a real mess of the distribution system. Not a single real store in Richmond, VA carries AEP, and won't carry it in the forseeable future. That is really messed up on UbiSoft's part. Finally, I've ordered it off EBGames.

Ah... I was in a rush. and just did the first Spit I could find that had the right view. Ah well. Guess if I had had AEP I would`ve done the right one! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
